SSD Formatting & Installation
-
Dear RetroPie community,
In the long past I had RetroPie up and running on a SSD drive, linked to my Pi 4 model.
I've tried various methods to reformat the SSD without any success. I've tried the following methods:
- Windows - Command Prompt (run as Admin) diskpart, delete, delete override, etc
- Windows Disk Mangement
- Windows - My Computer - format SSD
- Windows - AOMEI Partition Assistant (free)
- EaseUS Partition Master (free)
- Linux Cinnamon on USB - GParted (HDD manager utility)
- Windows - Raspberry Pi Imager
- Linux Cinnamon on USB - Raspberry Pi Imager
GParted:
Raspberry Pi Imager:
I'm not sure what else to try. I've really stuck and worried that my SSD maybe ruined.
Please help.

Can you write anything on the drive or is it stuck in a read-only state ? Looks like the SSD is broken or at least the controller on it has set the drive in read-only mode.
-
@mitu I don't think I can write to it. I couldn't delete the existing files on the FAT partition, either.
-
@CyrodiilWarrior What I meant is to create or edit a file on one of the partitions and see if it's working.
-
@mitu that's not working sadly :(

I'd say that it's most likely broken and became read-only, thus the inability to erase the partition table and create a new one (re-partition).
