Stuck on Spalshscreen after updating pi v4

Hi all. I cant get the specs since it wont boot but its a pi v4 that was not far out of date. Maybe a couple of months ago I last updated. I updated the setup script as normal and everything was fine after a reboot. I upgraded all core packages and rebooted now it is stuck at the splashscreen after loading the OS. I am able to connect over SFTP still. What can I do?

This means it boots, but EmulationStation doesn't start or the splashscreen is stuck. You still have access via SSH - disable the splashscreen from RetroPie-Setup and see if rebooting will start EmulationStation.
Also, please add the info requested in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first, you can get the version via SSH when starting RetroPie-Setup. Add also the output of the following command:
systemctl status asplashscreen.service -
I could not get the setup script to launch is why I did not get the details. But you mentioned SSH and I remembered that I could not do it over the terminal in WINSCP.
As always you are just amazing. It was just the splashscreen thank goodness. Time to donate again! =)

Not really sure what it means - does it work if you disable the splashscreen ? What's the output from the command I posted - that may help understand why the splashscreen is stuck.
