      Hi Community,

is there any Tutorial to install the Stratagus games to RetroPie?
I've accomplished to install Wargus on my Ubuntu system to play Warcraft II (thanks to apt-get install :P ).

Now i want to install it on my RetroPie but on the wiki is only the advice to copy the original game data to the roms/stratagus folder.

My plan is to install Warcraft I, Warcraft II and Starcraft to my RetroPie but I really don't know how to bring it to work correctly.
I think I have to put the game data from the CDs to my RetroPie and to start stratagus with some parameters but that's all I can imagine know.

Is there any lad who did it with RetroPie?

RetroPie is a great Project! Special thanks to all who are working on it!

          HI again,

I bought a Raspberry Pi 3 and tried it with the RetroPie Image 3.7 now.

I tried to get it work by installing Wargus on my Ubuntu-Laptop and copying the wargus game folder to the ~/RetroPie/roms folder. (I installed Stratagus with the RetroPie Setup script before)

After starting EmulationStation Stratagus didn't appear.

I tried it with a script called test.wc2 with a command line to start stratagus.
I tested the script with the command line and wc2 started.

          In EmulationStation Stratgus didn't appear.

I don't know wether it was the right way to install it because the performance isn't very good.

Is there any step that i have to do to make it work better and to get Stratagus displayed in EmulationStation?

@Nickelino, @lemsip: In the meantime I added a wiki page for Stratagus: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Stratagus. The important bit is to copy the folder with the extracted data (or the Windows installation folder if on Windows) and add a ".data" ending to the folder name. Then it should show up.

Regarding performance, unfortunately it is running in software mode right now, so it's not optimal, although on my RPi2 performance is fine at least for the first few missions and some Starcraft skirmish.

Hi! I'm quite new to retropie (as well as to the raspberry) and would need some help with stratagus too....I already got the emulator to show up and show the warcraft 2 folder. But it crashes as soon as is it launched...(goes black for a moment and returns to the Stratagus screen)

I've installed Wargus on Windows 10 and copied the content of the folder to my Pi 3B (running retropie/emulation station).

                      From the Emulation Station Log:
lvl1: Unknown platform for system "stratagus" (platform "stratagus" from list "stratagus")
                      lvl2: Parsing XML file "/home/pi/.emulationstation/gamelists/stratagus/gamelist.xml"...
lvl1: File ""/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/stratagus/warcraft2.data"" does not exist! Ignoring.

And here is my file list and what the Pi shows me:

That's odd, it says it doesn't exist but from your picture it does exist. Also it's weird that it has 2 sets of quotes around ""/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/stratagus/warcraft2.data"". This seams like a red flag to me but what do i know? ;)

After you try to launch Stratagus, what is inside the Runcommand log:
                        /dev/shm/runcommand.log

I get the exact same problem. I still haven't been able to figure out how to get wargus properly installed so it will run.

Okay so I decided to try to install Stratagus/Wargus (a.k.a.: Warcraft II) because everyone had been talking about it and I wanted to see if I could figure it out.

Note: this will not work with the Battle.net Edition of Warcraft II

First, you don't get it to work just by copying your Warcraft 2 CD over to your Raspberry Pi. You actually run the Wargus installer from either Windows, Mac OS X or Linux (not sure if it works on an ARM Linux). I did the Windows route and this is how I did it:

                            • Go to the official Wargus website and download the Windows version of Wargus v2.4.1 (there is also a YouTube video on that site showing you how to install this)
                            • Now install Wargus and the installation will ask for your Warcraft II data so point it to your CD (or if you have your data copied to your hard drive then point to there)
                            • (optional) next if you have the Expansion Pack "Beyond the Dark Portal" then point the installer to that data (I don't have this so I skipped this)
                            • At the end of the install you can go ahead and launch Warcraft II to make sure it works and if it does then we're ready to start copying data over to your Raspberry Pi
                            • In Windows navigate to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Wargus" or "C:\Program Files\Wargus" and only copy the sub-directories to /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/stratagus/warcraft2.data on your Raspberry Pi

The sub-directories that need to be copied are as followed:

                            • campaigns
                            • graphics
                            • maps
                            • music
                            • scripts
                            • sounds
                            • videos

                            Booyah!

Sadly, that didn't work for me, I still get a crash. But the runcommand.log seems promising. I think I am missing a file called "libmikmod.so.3":

                                  Parameters: 0 _SYS_ stratagus /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/stratagus/warcraft2.data
                                  Executing: /opt/retropie/emulators/stratagus/stratagus -F -d "/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/stratagus/warcraft2.data"
/opt/retropie/emulators/stratagus/stratagus: error while loading shared libraries: libmikmod.so.3:
cannot open shared object > file: No such file or directory

Looks like this file is somehow linked to a music player: https://www.rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/search.php?query=libmikmod.so.3

And regarding the sub-directories in your post and the addition to the wiki: I'm working with a Windows 10 Wargus install and dont have a folder called "video". Instead, I got two folders your list is missing: "shaders" and "contrib". Maybe the folder structure slightly differs on Linux and Windows?

That worked for me perfectly thxs. The creators of this engine and work do good work but are kinda disorganized. They say they have 3 or 4 different official locations to download their work but every location is hosting a different version. And from reading around I learned that out of the 4 only one of the versions will work doing this work around useing windows to get the needed files from the game. That is version 2.4.1 from the site/link backstander has posted all other versions will result in a black screen and crash back to the game selection screen.

                                    @Corvin

That maybe your problem did you use version 2.4.1 of wargus? But thats just a wild guess. Its most likely you don't have one or more of the dependencies installed to get the game to run.

I'm using 2.4.1, downloaded it yesterday from https://wargus.github.io/

I'll download it again now and post results.

Now i ran in to another problem. I jad the game running and working but i desided to try and turn on some of the in game settings and now i'm getting the black screen and crash again. I tried just deleting the whole wargus folder and re-transfering the default game back over but that diden't fix it.

Anybody know where the settings file would be located?

Just reinstalled it on Windows and tested it again on the raspberry. My file structure is now looking exactly like it should (with the video folder and without the contrib and shader folders). Maybe I've used the unstable build on the first try, now I've been using 2.4.1 stable. Works like a charm under Windows.

But It wont work on the raspberry. I still get the libmikmod.so.3 error :(
