New here, and apologize if this is in the wrong spot.

I am thinking of making a RetroPie build using a vertical screen and had a few questions about it. I have seen that there is some rewriting of boot files to get it to rotate, but once it's rotated I wondered a few things:

      • If using a vertical 4:3 screen, are there bezels to fill out the screen when playing horizontal games? I've seen great bezels and effects but they are always demonstrated on horizontal screens.

      • Can a 16:9 screen be used vertically, with a segment of the screen dedicated to displaying a Marquee above the game area? I am thinking that the marquee would take up enough space leaving the equivalent of the 4:3 screen area. With a neat bezel, it would look like 2 screens.

I am sure there is more, but my reading online and watching videos has kind of left me without many answers to these few questions. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

if you made one, sure. you can do overlays of any size.

          Thanks,
So what you're saying is just make an overlay that has the marquee in it. I never thought to think it was that easy. I suppose if I had a divided bezel, that may interfere some with the main menu and such? Or is there a way to program it to have that section of the screen blank/unused when not playing a game? Like if I were in the Retropie menus etc?

@morpie overlays are only active when running the libretro (lr-) emulators/games of your choosing.
