Cloning SD card need HELP PLEASE
-
I want to clone my SD card and use it on another system I built so all I have to do is in sort the card and start playing again.... IS THIS POSSIBLE PLEASE HELP ME on my retropie project
-
@Corykrist1 Yes it is possible. Just check this out:
You can probably find video tutorials on YouTube too.
-
You can download Win32diskimager, read option to backup sdcard and write option to write to new SD card. This will copy everything include the boot partition.
-
Just make sure you are using the same make/size card as the one you made the image from. I found a Samsung card is slightly bigger than a Sandisk card of the same size and it wouldn't write to the new card.

@dragonuk now do I have to use the same SD card as the original brand, size and make or can I use a smaller card size lets say I have made a backup of a 32gb card but it's only using 13gb could I clone it to a 16gb card
Thanks in advance -
@Corykrist1 Resizing the image created from win32diskimager is a little tricky, but it can be done if necessary. See this post: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/6470/script-to-resize-shrink-win32-disk-imager-retropie-images
You'll probably have an easier time if you just back up your roms/configs folders after accessing your pi on the network (via \\retropie), and then copy them back onto your new installation on a smaller SD card.
