C64 Starting a game
-
Hi and thanks for reply.
I am running the latest 4.0.2.
The controller works on other emulators like SNES, NES, GBC.Inputs are detected as I can map keys in the config GUI, but i can only map UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT and FIRE. FIRE key will not start game either.

@Kvitekvist NO C64 game working at all ? I used VICE for VIC20 and had no issues. Will test C64 and let you know (I have an Xbox controller too).
-
@UDb23 Correct, they all boot and they all do not get past the Main Screen. I put on a "Virtual Keyboard" as well, and i was able to move that around on the screen but no input from it seems to be accepted as a start botton.

I have done some more testing.
Game 1: Arkanoid
Emulator: Vice-64x
Controller: XboxI can not do any inputs on the starting screen. If I wait until the demo-video of the game starts I can press Y on the Xbox Controller. Then press the "J" key on the keyboard to choose "Joypad". The game will launch and the right stick of the xbox controller controlls the movement in the game.

@Kvitekvist either tab escape or one of the f keys brings up the settings menu. In there you can set up your controller. You can also set up a button to bring up the menu as well which allows you to quit the emulator. Go into machine settings then joystick settings. After you set that up then back up to the first page by pressing the button that got you into the menu. Then go into settings management and save joystick map. You can set up ui settings in there as well

Some of the games on C64 use joystick in port 1, others joystick in port 2. Make sure to setup at least one joystick (from Vice menu) then if game still does't work use SWAPJOYSTICK option. Make sure to save joy confiuguration before you exit VICE. Also there's nice feature in VICE called WARP (see drive configuration). If enabled at start it makes VICE to run at max CPU speed during loading of the game then it backs to 100% once game is started. Reduces significantly loading times.

@edmaul69 Yes i have been able to map the keys, but as my test earlier I must wait like 3-4 minutes before it accepts any "start game" input. It will accept inputs to open the config page at any time, but it will only let me start a game after the Video of the game has started (some kind of demo game play).
@adriansos666 Very interesting about the WARP, i will definitely try that. It could be the loading that gets stuck or something since it takes minutes to be allowed to start anything. I'll be away until Thursday so i will let you know if it worked after that.
Thanks for the help so far!

@Kvitekvist Hi, have you found a solution for this? I am facing just the same problem. I can not get over the intro for quite a while. Using WARP did not change this :(. Thanks in advance!

Hi,
From here https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Commodore-64 - Start Game: Spacebar.
But it doesn't work at all. F12 works ok
-
After a while - we must wait abotu some minutes after emulator start works. So - it starts very slow.

@sdsi some games use the escape button. Some use escape for some parts and spacebar for other parts.
