Could Retropie be installed on a custom-built PC instead of a Raspberry Pi?

The title says all. I'm curious if I could go out, build a $400 PC, then instead of Windows, install Retropie instead.

Not exactly. There is an x86 build of Retropie, but it is installed on top of Windows.
Retropie is not an OS. even on the Raspberry Pi is sits on top of the Raspbian OS.
Retropie is more of a software suite (think Microsoft Office) that brings together various pieces of software (Emulatiostation, Retroarch, various emulators, Gamepad drivers, etc) so that folks don't have to go find everything individually to get a gaming system up and running.

I thought the PC (x86) version or RetroPie was only for PC's running Linux - specifically the Debian and Ubuntu flavors?

You're right, I was thinking about Emulationstation on Windows. Retropie x86 is Linux-based.

@mrbwa1 Okay, so just to summarize, is it possible? Or no? The only reason I asked this question in the first place was because I wanted to see if you could make a more amped up retro-gaming machine, as the Raspberry Pi's specs aren't amazing.

Yes, use the link provided by @mercifulhacker to build a PC-based emulation system.
It actually allows for some more adveanced stuff like PS2 and Gamecube as well with that version.

@mrbwa1 Okay, thank you so much, I have a small $400 Micro-ATX PC plan, so I'll build that, then I'll install Ubuntu and Retropie. If it works out, I'll post it somewhere on the forum. Thanks.
