Hello everyone, I'm very new to this so please bear with me. I recently got a raspberry pi zero and managed to set everything up yesterday. It runs fine if I'm playing a game or tinkering about but if I leave it idle for a few minutes my pi completely freezes and the only way to reset it is to unplug the power supply. I have updated everything using sudo apt-get update and problem persists. I thought it might be overheating but I do not have the pi inside a case so it gets plenty ventilation and this only happens when left idle. Freezes with or with or without any peripherals. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

      I'm using:
      Raspberry Pi Zero version 1.3
      5v 2A micro usb charger
      Retropie v 4.1.9
Built from pre made retropie image on this website
Conected to amazon basics usb hub with usb snes controller and wifi dongle (problem persists even without anything connected)

@jarymoon have you overclocked? You should try another PSU in case it's power related.

Try different SD card with same image, and then different SD card with different (vanilla) image and see what results you get. This will help troubleshoot the issue.

I've had a ton of problems with cheap SD cards.

@Mobile.Rodri im using a 32gb SanDisk class 10 so im not sure the quality might be the problem but I'll definitely have to try a clean install again. Just not sure how I would go about installing a vanilla image? I'm a total noob when it comes to this so I have no idea. I'll have to try a different sd card as well as soon as I can get my hands on one.

                    Hey guys, update..

I tried a new sandisk ultra 32gb micro sd card with a newly downloaded image and my pi wouldn't even recognize it. I scrapped it and purchased a new samsung evo 64gb, redownloaded the image from github and booted up my pi. It booted fine so I left it idle to see if I could recreate the problem, no update or upgrade just clean install and again it continues to freeze if I leave it alone for even 2-3 mins. Again, this only happens if my pi is left alone and not running any processes, I could leave a game running and it wont freeze which makes me think it's some sort of reading issue. I updated it and upgraded it again using the sudo apt-get command and the problem persists. So far I have tried 3 different micro sd cards, a 5v 2A charger purchased from ebay, a cellphone charger, with and without usb hub connected (controllers and wifi dongle), without update and now with an update for a second time. I'm beginning to think it could be a hardware problem on my raspberry pi zero itself. Really stumped here =/

Have you downloaded the right image pi0/pi1? :-)

It's not a fake sd card but I think I have confirmed it is a faulty unit. I decided to look in the vendor's, adafruit support forums and found this. https://forums.adafruit.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=109254&p=545910&hilit=freeze+pi#p545910
It seems im not the only one having this issue, I have since contacted them for a replacement or return and now im just waiting on their reply. Thank you everyone.
