Neogeo

@DrUnKeN_TiGeR sorry, I know...MAME does not work in that way!
-
@DrUnKeN_TiGeR You need All of the set for it to work. Get a 0.78 set. It is a non -merged set.
-
so its not like nes or snes where you can just a pick a few games i have to get every game available to get it to work?
-
@DrUnKeN_TiGeR nope. Not unless you use the 0.78 ROMset which is a non-merged set. A non -merged set contains stand-alone ROMs. The others, ie a split or merged set rely on code from other ROMs. Sometimes they are totally unrelated games but from the same manufacturer of hardware or game developer... it's complicated...
-
OHHHHH ok so what emu do i need to run that on? AND what is it 0.2.97.78?
-
Also, make sure you've the proper BIOS file. When I was trying to get NeovGeo games to run (using the Neo Geo emulator) it was a lot of Googling until I came across the proper BIOS file what would work. That and making sure I had it in both the BIOS folder and in the same folder my Neo Geo roms were in. Maybe your issue is something similar?
-
@DrUnKeN_TiGeR just "find" a 0.78 Reference romset. Use the "arcade" folder on RetroPie and set the emulatotor as lr-mame 2003.. you will be good to go. I have 88 games at the minute.
-
do i still try to boot them from the neogeo menu?
-
@DrUnKeN_TiGeR forget all the stuff at the start. That is for FBA. Just look for "0.78" romset. 2003 MAME.
-
thanks ill work on it
-
@DrUnKeN_TiGeR It's actually quite easy when it clicks in your head. I want to help you. I just think you are assuming that stuff works like you think it "should". MAME does not work in that way. A lot of files are shared in ROM sets. If you don't have a full set you may be missing a vital part to run your game. The only way around this is to use a non-merged set (stand-alone). These can be used as individual ROMs because they conttain all the info needed to run all by themselves. Do you get what I am saying?
-
@DrUnKeN_TiGeR Fba works fine here. Your romset isn't the correct one or maybe errors were caused when transferring. Try updating fba too.
-
@Darksavior He's trying to use individual ROMs. That's his issue. Nothing wrong with FBA.
-
The Neo Geo page in the wiki could use some updates to make this process clearer: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Neo-Geo
The 'managing ROMs' page [ https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Managing-ROMs ] has been updated recently, which may provide some source material for the Neo Geo update if any intrepid user would like to give it a shot
I don't have a RetroPie setup or I would be more tempted to take this project on myself.
-
@markwkidd Personally I think it is as clear as it could be. What is missing? Which steps?
-
@markwkidd You don't use RetroPie? You just like to hangout on RetroPie forums... why?
-
Use google and search for romset 0.2.97.39
Put all the roms (in zip format) you want into the fba roms folder.
Also search for a neogeo.zip bios and add that one too inside the fba roms folder. Please read the romset section of the RetroPie wiki which explains stuff about the parent roms.
If you see 3-4 roms with the same name but they say EURO, US or Japan at the end of it then usually the largest one in file size should be the parent rom.
And also read quickly the stuff about the neogeo bios (UNIBIOS) which will allow you to do various game settings like blood for Metal Slug or Samurai Showdown.Setup your controller(s) for the fba emulator.
Done!

@columboscoat he does lots of good work for gamelists and other stuff with retroarch/lakka so it's directly related to all the stuff he already works on.
-
@herb_fargus Just wondering. 'Cos my brain works that way. I'm sure, like all men, he appreciates you answering for him...
-
@FlyingTomahawk I don't think he's getting the parent/clone dependency thing. Most people don't until it is explained. I tried but I'm no expert.
