Ok guys so here is my question. I have a mame game is called Taito Power Goal. The rom's name is pwrgoal.zip and is a single file about 10mb.
So when i copy this rom in arcade folder i can see it on emulationstation arcade list and play it via mame2003 and is a bit laggy.
If i try to change the emulator to adv-mame is giving me a black screen.
      BUT.....
If i copy the rom to the adv-mame folder and restart my emulationstation and run the game from mame tab it will play with adv-mame emulator in full speed. Any idea why adv-mame is not responding through arcade tab and is on when i copy roms to his folder?

While I do not have the answer, I hope I can at least help by letting you know you aren't alone in encountering an issue like this. For me, I found that with lr-mame-2003, I could run compatible Neo Geo roms when they and the bios were in the Mame folder, but not in the arcade folder when using lr-mame-2003 as the emulator.

I'm wondering if it is something related to the run command in the es_systems.cfg file specific to arcade that is different from the mame variants. I'll check on my end, as well, when I have the chance, but hopefully, someone more knowledgeable will also chime in.

It's probably because you don't have the adv-mame TAITO bios file in the arcade folder with the rom. It's called something like TAITO FX1 or similar, I'm not totally sure.

@soulfunkdjx I have not had this neo-geo issue but i am still running 3.8.

@soulfunkdjx I believe the arcade folder is missing from the rom path for AdvanceMAME. If you edit the relevant rc config file in /opt/retropie/configs/mame-advmame and change the rom path to:

            dir_rom /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/mame-advmame:/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/arcade

            then that should fix it.

@dudleydes Can you tell me please how to do it step by step. It seems to be that the answer.
              I found 3 rc files in /opt/retropie/configs/mame-advmame

              1. advmame-0.94.0.rc
              2. advmame-1.4.rc
              3. advmame-3.1.rc
Also there is a "emulators.cgf" file andif i open it with text editor i found this:
                advmame-0.94.0 = "/opt/retropie/emulators/advmame/0.94.0/bin/advmame %BASENAME%"
                default = "advmame-3.1"
                advmame-1.4 = "/opt/retropie/emulators/advmame/1.4/bin/advmame %BASENAME%"
                advmame-3.1 = "/opt/retropie/emulators/advmame/3.1/bin/advmame %BASENAME%"
                What to do now??

@soulfunkdjx Open a rc file in a text editor, go to line 42 (or search for dir_rom) and make the changes outlined in my previous post. Repeat for the other 2.
