      this adapter is not working with my raspberry pi 3..i get no signal on a 17" dell monitor that is known to be good.

      I have uncommented these lines in the config.txt file.

      hdmi_safe=1
      hdmi_group=2
      hdmi_mode=16
      hdmi_drive=2
      config_hdmi_boost=7

        @joelw23 you need to get rid of hdmi safe. Not sure why you have safe mode on. Plus why is your hdmi boost on 7?

          because i was trying everything to get it to work...

          i'll turn safe mode off and put the boost back to 4 and try.

              @joelw23 if you do it should work fine. Its the same settings i use. I have a 15" tv though. Are you sure you cant set yours to 1280x something? (not sure if you have a widescreen or not) I would try getting it working on mode 16, 1024x768 first (if you dont have a widescreen) It is the setting you have it on right now.

                right...

                everything i've read has said it "should" work, but all of the setting i've tried have produced no picture....

                maybe the adapter is bad.....

                          @joelw23 change your hdmi mode from 16 to 35. You can try 37 as well but i believe 35 is correct for your monitor

                              also just tried another vga cable just to be sure.. same result

                              when i unplug the vga cable the monitor goes in to "self test feature check" mode

                              when the vga cable is plugged in, it goes right in to sleep mode with the yellow light on the power button.

                                  I have also tried a usb cable that plugs in to the wall in case the pi3 wasn't giving enough power...

                                  monitor is still in power save mode with no signal.

                                    the company that sold the adapter is sending me a new one to try...

                                    hopefully this one is defective.

                                      @joelw23 this could be a possible issue or it was from how you copy and pasted, but why do all the words "uncomment" not have hashtag "#" in front of them?

                                        must be how it copied an pasted...they do have a # in front of them in the config.txt file

                                          Hmmm, I got this model :
                                          https://www.amazon.es/cambiador-ordenador-portátil-Proyector-Raspberry/dp/B00F6RZZMU/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1486660818&sr=8-6&keywords=hdmi+to+vga

                                          And It worked for me, but needed to set "hdmi_drive=2" (uncomment the line in /boot/config.txt) for get a good quality image; if not, the colours looks strange.

                                          Note: Uncomment means that you should delete that # to get that code line working (no spaces too)
