Noobie help please

Hi Guys

i am new to Raspberry Pi and thus Retropie and had a couple of questions i was hoping for some help with.

1. while i had the pi attached to our main, 59 inch TV the audio worked fine. when i conected it to a spare tv i have, the audio doesnt work. the tv's audio works fine with other things just not the pi. i have checked in the settings while in emulation station and it says audio is on and at 77%. i tried upping it to 100% but no different. i have checked the obvious, that the volume is up and not muted and it is on and loud enough. any thoughts?

2. i cant get a neo geo game to work. i didnt unzip the rom but on most other emulators i didnt need to. i read somewhere about a bios but didnt go further with that.

3. the n64 roms needed unzipping and then worked however they had glitchy audio and sometimes jerky play especially killer instinct. also, maybe connected, mario kart 64 played super fast even when on 100cc kart option so i think it is the game. any thoughts?

1. Have you tried turning your set on first and connecting the pi before giving power to the pi?

2. We need a lot more information. What emulator did you try? Is it a CD or cartridge game? Most importantly, do you have a NeoGeo bios that works for your chosen emulator?

3. N64 emulation is still very much in development on the pi. It is not a stable platform for reliable N64 gaming.

firstly thanks guys.

@Buzz - sorry for that. it is a raspberry pi 3. running the latest retropie. it has 2 replica snes controllers, a cheap usb keyboard and a usb thumb drive connected. it has a raspberry pi specific power supply to give enough power. it is connected via wifi to the internet. it uses a hdmi lead to attach to the tv. not sure if you need anything else.

@Lyle_JP - thanks for the help. 1) i'm not sure i have done that so i will give it a try but i think i did. anything else it could be? 2) i have only used whatever emulators that came with retropie. i just put my rom on the thumb drive and went from there. 3) i thought you might say that re n64. anything i could try to help?

from my short time with the raspberry pi and retropi i havent seen a good/thorough menu with many settings. am i missing something?

2.Get the neogeo.zip bios. This is explained in the official documentation on Neo-Geo.
3. N64 emulation on the Pi is awful. I wouldn't bother with it.

firstly point taken, read the rules and use search. admittedly i am very new to this and there is no need to be so blunt, a simple push in the right direction doesnt require making someone feel like an idiot.

however the response has put me on the right track to sorting things out.

1. that reply sorted it. i read a little and found how to access the boot config and uncommented the line about hdmi and that has sorted the audio for me.

2. i am now downloading and installing the bios for neo geo and will report back.

3. with n64 i agree it doesnt seem too good does it?

I was directing you to the forum and the docs because it was unlikely the issues you were having were unique to you; in fact they are some of the most frequently asked questions and the answers are readily available. The documentation provided by RetroPie is second-to-none and the knowledge contained in the forum mops up pretty much anything else.
Anyway, glad you got it sorted.

number 2 though. i put the neogeo.zip in the BIOS folder on the thumb drive and put it in the pi. i tried playing the 1 rom i have in there and it initially looked like it was trying to play but then went back to the game list screen. more reading up i guess.

@marc.knuckle try getting multiple roms to test. Also put the bios zip in with the roms in the roms folder. (Just in case its looking for it there) Because the mame/fba roms get updated some of the roms might not be compatible if you dont have the correct version of rom with the version of fba/mame that is on the pi. So testing only one rom does you no good.
