I have fulfilled my mission
I haven't bought anything yet, but I'm certainly thinking about things to acquire.
-
@FlyingTomahawk if you stumble across a super gameboy controller for a super famicom i am interested in that. The cable condition does not matter as i will modify it for my pi setup. I think those and the famicom controllers are the only controllers i am missing except for maybe the different sg-1000 / sega mark controllers
-
Roger that.
-
Got my second Famicom today.
It is lot more yellow-ish than my first one.
It's also missing the little front cover (D-pin plug)I will try to bleach both Famicom covers and see if I can get them back to their original white-ish color.
If I should succeed, would this 2nd Famicom do for you? If you want I can post more pics later.
-
@FlyingTomahawk yeah that is acceptable for me.
-
Great, just give me a few days to try to bleach it and maybe bring it back to its former glory or at least close to it.
Regarding the price, I don't intend to earn by it so I would charge the same price I paid for it.
That would be $10 plus shipping for the console + the 2 controllers of my console. So you end up with total 4 controllers plus console.
The $10 will be donated to the RetroPie guys, so a win win situation. You get what you want and you help out this project here.
Does that sound good to you?
I'll check the shipping cost again tonight so that I can give you a accurate estimate. -
@FlyingTomahawk that sounds awesome to me.
-
Taken apart and ready for the bleach bath tomorrow.
-
Is this the Game Boy Pocket that you are looking for?
The one on the rear-right
And is this the Game Boy Advance that you meant?
-
@FlyingTomahawk if the A and B buttons on the Pocket are maroon like an original Gameboy, then yes. And yes, the white Gameboy Advance looks correct.
Here's a photo I found online of the pocket color I'm looking for.
Here's a stock photo of the Gameboy Advance I've been looking for.
If the screen protector (the outer plastic part, not the actual LCD) on the pocket is scratched up (they don't reproduce that part with that color combinations and I can't tell if that's in the photo, a reflection, or if in person those marks on the left of the screen aren't as bad as the look) or if either one is missing the battery cover (for some reason those go missing a lot and neither of those colors are reproduced) I would say to pass on that unit.

This is something I don't think made it to Japan, but if anyone finds one of these Gameboy Advance Carrying Cases, let me know. I search eBay and Goodwill online for them every week or so and haven't ever come across one.
I'm not looking to spend a ton for one, and it doesn't need to be mint with the box, but in good condition for $10-20 I'd be all about it.
-
@FlyingTomahawk you ARE a bad influence. :-P
I'm looking online at old games and it's23 in the morning. -
On the subject of cool stuff Japan got that the US never saw:
Most are familiar with the Famicom Disk System that used special double-sided magnetic disks to hold game data
But did you know the Super Famicom had Satellaview? A way to download games from a satellite!
And Nintendo 64 had the Nintendo 64DD. Another attempt at using magnetic storage.
-
The Game Boy Pocket and the Game Boy Advance are behind a show window. Meaning those are not junk and fully functional and in complete condition, nothing is missing on them.
The Game Boy Pocket is 1620Yen ($14-15) and the Game Boy Advance is 2160Yen ($18-19) You just tell me if you are "really" interested and the next time I go to that store I'll ask them to take them out so that I can take a very close look at them and eventually purchase them for you. I don't want to force you to buy them or in fact anything. I am here on the other side of the globe and you can if you want get them. If not those 2 then others will come.Never seen that carry case before.
I recently have seen 3 of those Famicom floppy disc boxes that attach under the main Famicom body. Those are expensive even as junk. -
@FlyingTomahawk I'd definitely be really interested in the Pocket if it's in good shape. For something like that I wouldn't want to cut it up for a Pi. If anything I'd backlight the screen, or only mod it if it didn't require altering the case, like what I did with the Super Famicom. With something like that, the case is what makes it special. I can find other color pockets in the US easily if I wanted to cut one up.
The Advance looks nice, but you can find those over here for around the same price when they show up, so I wouldn't want you to go to the trouble of getting one of those.
I wasn't looking for you to pick up one of the console add-on units, it's just 3:38 AM and SOMEONE in Japan got me thinking about Japanese video game gear and I can't fall back to sleep.
-
@FlyingTomahawk What do actual games tend to sell for in those shops? I'd been thinking about getting some Mario games to frame, but on eBay they are usually around $10-$20 each for ones that aren't mangled.
-
@FlyingTomahawk Also, if you happen to find another Famicom in that $10-$20 price range that's not yellow and is in otherwise decent looking shape, I'd be definitely interested. It doesn't need to work, and I'd actually prefer it was a broken one as I'd want it to mod for either a Pi or maybe even a NUC.
-
Mario games are expensive if in good condition. Those count as collector items.
Tomorrow during lunch I will visit 3-4 shops that might have some Famicoms around, fingers crossed, and if I should find one I'll grab it for you.I was just looking through the Yahoo auction regarding the Game Boy Pocket (grey) and the cheapest I can find is 3000Yen. I should have taken the one for 1620Yen today. Even if you wouldn't take it I could re-sell it here for a higher price. Let's hope they still have it there the next time I visit.

That makes sense, but since you've been instigating and offering to keep an eye out for stuff, I figured I'd ask. Don't worry about the games then

Please don't go out of your way to look for one, or any of this stuff, really.

Sounds like you're getting back in the video game business. ;)
-
No worries I like to go around those shops looking for treasures or things of interest.
I will take a picture of the stuff I still have from the video game business days. Out of my head, a Final Fantasy Game Boy Micro set, Mother 3 Game Boy Micro set, green Game Boy Micro, Famicom Game Boy Micro, 2x Zelda edition Game Boy Advance SP, Classic NES Game Boy Advance SP, old version Game Boy Famitsu skeleton edition. And a few more. Mostly new and never opened.
So I had/have my share of portable gaming stuff but that grey Pocket is interesting, especially because of its rare color.Sorry to drag you into this retro stuff, didn't mean to burden your mind with nonsense like that. We all should stick to our RPis which are more than capable to playing all those rare games. ;-)v
