      Hello everyone,
I am sorry if I ask a question about MAME, but i didn't found exactly what i need to know in the forum.
      Basically I am a proud owner of a raspberry pi3 B, and i have installed Retropie v4.2
I copied a lot of SNES and NES ROMs inside the folders and they work perfectly. I then copied some MAME ROMs inside the "arcade" folder but i just don't see them in the menu, eventuali After restarting the system. Actually I don't see the MAME option in the retropie menu. Of course i am missing something, so I am asking: do I need other files (DAT files or something else)? If yes, what files and where should I put them?
Btw: I' ve tried to copy the ROMs inside the lrmame2003 folder and inside the mame4all as well but same result: no MAME option in the menu and no MAME games.
The romset I have is not the 0.78 (i am downloading it right now) but I have some ROMs working in that romset.

Thank you very much and sorry if this question is redundant, but I am less than a beginner in the beautiful retropie world.

      Cheers everyone,
      Alex

@DamnAlex do not impatiently bump posts - wait for a reply.

Also - Please do not post a support request without first reading and following the advice in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first (as you agreed when registering).

Did you read the documentation on Arcade/mame ? You need to get the correct romset, for the correct emulator. I need more information to advise - eg, you didn't unpack the roms for example ?

@BuZz Hi Buzz, sorry for the bump, it will never happen again. Yes I searched into the documents but I didn't find the answer to my problem (or maybe as I am a complete newbie to this world, I am just missing it because I don't understand something). I have a MAME on my pc so i know that the ROMs are zip files for MAME and i left every game in zip format. I' ve read in the forum that the lrmame2003 needs the romset 0.78. If I don't use it I may have non working games. Everything is really clear about that, but my problem is that I don't see the games that i have copied a into the "arcade" folder. if copy that romset into the arcade folder, will I see my list of games automatically or will i need more setup and or files to be putted somewhere?

            Thanks again,
            Alex

Yes, if you get a valid 0.78 romset, and use lr-mame2003, they will work together.

Although it's not advisable to copy the entire set to your Pi. It's around 44GB and consists mostly of duplicate games. Not every game is supported (you'll have ROMS from Namco system 22 and S-TV in there which will never run, along with rubbish like super system and megatech ROMs).

If you don't want to spend time scrolling through multiple copies of every game you can trim the ROM set using the no clones, no neo geo dat file on the wiki page:

              https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/MAME

If you want to make your own custom set, there is more info in:

@Macaque thanks very much Mac. So do you think I don't see games because i am using the wrong romset? Last question: I' ve found that page with the different versions of the DAT file. If I choose the one you told me (no clones etc..) where should I copy that file?

                Thanks again :)

@DamnAlex You don't see them because (could be any of these)

                  a) you didn't restart emulationstation
                  b) you have turned "Parse Gamelists Only" on in EmulationStation
                  c) the files are in the wrong location or in the wrong format.

@BuZz thanks very much Buzz. I will check that option as soon as I will be at home, because all my files are in zip format and inside the "arcade" folder so it should be the only problem.

                    I' ll let you know.

                    Cheers!

@BuZz hi again Buzz. I'VE checked the option, it is off. I'VE checked again the ROMs and they are .Zip files, stored inside the "arcade" folder. Do you have any other thing for me to check?

                      Cheers,
                      Alex

@DamnAlex said in CAN'T SEE MAME ROMS:

                        .Zip

"Zip" with a capital "Z"? This was probably just a mistake on your part when posting, but if that is indeed the extension, then you need to make sure it's all lower case.

@mediamogul hi Media, yes sorry the capital has been changed by my phone while writing. They are zip, not Zip.

Can you go in through SSH or SMB and confirm that the ROMS are actually in the folder?

@mediamogul Yes media. Anyway i solved the problem starting from scratch again. I formatted the SD card, installed again retropie, copied all the zips like the first time and now it works :)

Thanks very much for your help anyway!!!
