New PS4 Pro/Version 2 Pad and RetroPie on Pi3
-
Hi
I have an original PS4 pad and it doesn't work natively with the Pi3's bluetooth. I have to go through the ds4drv process and then its flakey, and I don't like the CPU drain of the ds4drv process.
Does anyone know if the issue that causes you to need to use ds4drv is still there in the second version of the PS4 pad? The newer one launched alongside the PS4 Pro that has the light bar visible on the front, etc? I can find loads of into online (and in the RetroPie Wiki) about the original pad, but almost nothing about the newer one? I want it to be a simple standard bluetooth pad, I don't want to use any drivers or anything.
Thanks

@Adman1020 the new PS4 controller with light bar works with the blue tooth. The best option for the PS4 controllers is to get the USB receiver they sell so you can play PS4 games on a computer. The work much better than the blue tooth and works with both the old and new versions of the controller. ps4 USB wireless adapter

I don't want to use any recievers or dongles. My Pi is 'on display' infront of the TV in a case built from lego to look like NES, I don't want any dongles or cables hanging out of the side of it.
I use Xbox pads around my house for all PC gaming, any PS4 pad would be just for the Pi. I bought an original PS4 pad having been led to believe they just work, and found that to not be the case. But as I've said I have seen little information on the new one.
Do you have a new PS4 pad you have used?

@Adman1020 Yes, i have both a new and an old ps4 controller. The new one works with the blue tooth and you do not need any additional drivers, however I found it to be unreliable at times, when i used the ps4 controller one with a usb dongle it works perfectly all the time. Instead of dealing with issues from time to time, i decided to buy a dongle. You don't need one, it just works better. Just like the old ps4 controller will work with the ds4drv driver, they just work better with the USB receiver in my experience.
