@R3phil I am just on my iPhone right now, so maybe someone else can help out fill in any info I might miss.

First you need to be able to access the files on you pi by either an ftp client like winscp or you can also connect your pi to your home network and access the files that way. You can search the forum/the docs/ or google on how to do this.

Once you have access you will need to go to home/.emulationstation/themes and simply paste the theme folder as downloaded from github. The theme folder may not exist, so you might have to create the theme folder within the home/.emulationstation

There is also a way to do all of this from the command line or using shh like putty.

Sorry I don't have more links for you, but simply search for this information and there are a lot of detailed instructions on how to do this.

            UPDATE! ComicBook_4-3 is now Available

            Github link: ComicBook_4-3

This is a full up and running version of the ComicBook theme in 4:3 aspect ratio. This is V0.0 (so as not to confuse this with V1.0 which is the 16:9 version) The theme should be fully functional and works with the most current up to date Emulation Station with maxSize and the carousel updates. This also works with @pjft updated Screensaver OMX player ES Build.

I have found that for my builds, I need to lower my VRAM to 70 in the newest updated ES. In previous versions of ES I had to set my VRAM to 120. If you have white screens or glget errors. Adjust your VRAM up or down and this will correct the issue.

Please read the readme.txt file for more information and how to make modifications to work with your current system.

This will support all systems, however not all systems are completed with updated logos/graphics. This version now contains an expanded list of completed systems.

            Aracde
            Atari 2600
            Atari 7800

            Retropie (menu)
            ScummVM
            Steam
            SNES

Please let me know if you have any questions or run into any issues. At this time I do not plan to add any more system logos, so if there is one you need, please let me know and I will add it to a list for updates.

Update: ComicBook 16:9 v2.0 Now Available!

              Github Link: ComicBook v2.0

This is a full up and running update to the original 16:9 theme released last week. This is v2.0. The theme should be fully functional and works with the most current up to date Emulation Station with maxSize and the carousel updates.

The systems add are:

              FB Alpha
              Mame
              Mame-advmame
              Mame-Libretro
              Mame-mame4all
              Mega Drive
              NeoGeo
              Ports
              ScummVM
              Steam

I have also updated v1.0 to v1.1 Github link: ComicBook v1.1 This update keeps the original theme settings for Emulation Station prior to maxSize. It has the added systems. I do not plan to update this version any further as v2.0 for the Main Branch of ES will be the standard theme moving forward.

Also see my previous post just above this for the 4:3 aspect ratio version.

If you have any questions/comments/issues please let me know. Thanks!

@jfick13 Thanks! I believe that Family Computer and Super Famicom point to the NES and SNES folders. What i could do is create a log for each of those games and add it to the folder and then give you instructions on how to modify the comic_book.xml file so that the "Super NES" Would change to "Super Famicom" and "Nintendo" would change to "Family Computer"

                  Would that work for you?

@TMNTturtlguy Well done on the new release!

I had been meaning to provide a list of "wishes/polite requests" for systems, at a non-defined timeframe but in case you'd have the chance in the future, as you had requested it.

They are, more or less in order:

                          • ZX Spectrum
                          • PC Engine
                          • SegaCD
                          • Sega 32x
                          • Master System
                          • PC
                          • Game and Watch
                          • Kodi
                          • N64
                          • Daphne

I'm more than happy to help in any way - what would be helpful for these systems? No urgency nor expectation whatsoever, it's already pretty great as is!

                          Thanks :)

@darkbreaker what version of ES are you running? What does the white background look like? Do you see system names? Can you post a photo?

@TMNTturtlguy Sorry - I was just going by the list you shared earlier, maybe I missed it. I am not on my Pi :)

I do not have Photoshop, though, but I'm happy to try to provide images for some of the systems, if it helps? How many would help?

@darkbreaker your version of emulationstation does not support the new maxSize feature for video. What version of the theme did you download? You need v1.1. The link is at the bottom of the 16:9 post. If you are running 4:3, I don't have a version without maxSize.

@darkbreaker That version probably doesn't even have the VRAM fix by fieldofcows, I believe?

I was taking a look at the theme, I think you can optimize it a lot. I have some tips for you:

                                          - A few system logos missing.

                                          - It has a bug, the system logos are displaying on top of the marquees on top right section in all systems.

                                          - All the 3d boxes are stretched, you need to use maxSize for images.

                                          alt text

                                          - Why to place a border_4-3Outline.svg for each system?

                                          - I don't draw the border outlines lines on comic.png itself? less memory use if you do that.

                                          - A lot of systems with the same comic.png. Why don't create only one comic-default.png and place it inside main art folder and point to it for systems that need it?

                                          - Why a lot of system.svg files on each system folder?

                                          - Also I feel the gamepads are not matching the "feeling" of the theme.

                                          - Amazing font but doesn't support accents.

Tell me if you need help with the theme.

Edit: I love the gamelist scroll sound, can I use it in my theme?
