@Rookervik maybe a link to the github repository in the OP would avoid all these guys saying the same thing about the broken dropbox link. ;-)

@meleu Sorry, I've been extremely busy at work the last month. I might have more free time next week. I've updated the download link to the github repository.

@Rookervik I'm working on a tool to automate the installation of some arts, I'm doing my first tests with your pixel-friendly launching images from your github repo. I would like to know if you're OK if I release my tool with the option to download those images from your github repo.

I emphasize: I'm not modifying your amazing artwork. The tool will get the images directly from your repo. One of the benefits is that the tool donwload only the images for the systems that the user has installed (no need to download every single image and use just a few).

Hello everyone!! I have every launching screen working but the one for Steam. Where Im suppose to put the .png file for it? I tried /opt/retropie/configs/steam, /opt/retropie/configs/moonlight, /opt/retropie/configs/ports/steam and moonlight. It endup working with the .png file in /opt/retropie/configs/all but that's not optimal. Any ideas? Thank you!

Users interested in an easy way to install those awesome pixel-theme-friendly launching images shoud take a look in the tool I'm talking about here: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/9686/rpie-art-easy-way-to-install-art-on-your-retropie

To install the @Rookervik 's launching images you just have to launch the script and select
https://github.com/udb23/rpie-ovl >> Launching image list and then check the contrib/meleu/pixel-launching/* options. Pretty simple, huh?

Guess I need to update these to the new pixel artwork. I'll add that to my list of stuff to do.

I've skimmed through this and other associated posts and can't seem to find an answer, I've created my own "launching" images however they don't seem to fit the screen and I have black borders either side of the the image is there a command I can include in runcommand.sh for fbi that stretches to screen, I've tried both .png and .jpg images with the same result?

I haven't heard of any command to accomplish this.

I assume your using 1080p resolution? Just edit that launching image and resize it to 1920x1080.

                            Yeah, a 1080p display (16:9 aspect ratio) = 1920x1080

@Rookervik would it be possible to persuade you to add a 6-button layout underneath some chosen systems launch screens?

I'm thinking that the launch screen would be perfect to remind you, which buttons are assigned to which places, e.g. X, Y, A and B, and for NeoGeo with only 4 buttons, one could grey out the buttons that aren't in use..?

                                I'd really love this!

@AndersHP That sounds pretty badass, actually. Although some people tune their controllers differently in their own configs... which is the only downfall to this idea. And it's big enough that I probably won't follow it. But dangit, I'd love to see a quick shot of a controller mapper before I start the game. Just for a refresher. I'll seriously think about it. Especially if there's a way to do it "in general" even for people that haxor their controls. LOL

PS, I've already got ideas. Stay tuned. :D

@Rookervik NIFTY! Yeah you're right about the mapping cannot be fixed.
The screens are simple jpeg's, right? Could it be possible for you to provide some generic graphics that we can photoshop around with ourselves, to match our button mappings? Or is that solution too lowtech for you? :)

Also, I thought about if there's a way to have game-specific launch screens. In the same manner as mentioned above, how cool would it be to have a specific BurgerTime launch screen, that shows where the Pepper buttons are, just to inform AND get the right mood going :)

@meleu Wow, well then sky's the limit. I would love for a certain mr. @Rookervik to make cool launch images for BurgerTime, DonkeyKong, Defender, PacMan... You name it! Maybe even inspired by the original cabinets' color schemes for buttons etc. along with the button mappings.

Well, I'm just dreaming out loud here :D

@AndersHP Good lord, you're not asking much are you? LOL.

I would definitely like to make the default control theme controller for each system. Man that sounds like such a good idea. Do it in pixel. GAH way too cool.

The images are just 8-bit PNG files. You can edit them to whatever you want. And the text on the buttons will be simple enough that you can use fairly generic image editors to change it.

I might do up a couple in a few minutes and see what we think.

Should the default controller be an Xbox or PSX controller? I've made a mockup for RetroArch... it's a fake controller in the shape of their logo. I could use that as well.
