Sega CD games/bio not working on 4.2

Hi RetroPie community!
I recently installed the new version of RetroPie 4.2. I have noticed that my Sega CD games are not working. I even tried unistalling and reinstalling the Sega CD Bios just like on the wiki. and I know it does work on 4.1. What can I do to solve this? I am using a Raspberry Pi 3.

I'm on the latest update of 4.2.2 (just updated my Pi a few hours ago) on a Pi 3 and it works fine for me. What emulator(s) are you trying? I'm using Genesis Plus GX v1.7.4 afa38e3

@obsidianspider only problem with genesis plus gx is you cant run multi disk games. Lr-picodrive allows you to swap discs

@obsidianspider I am happy for you that it is working! The emulator that I am using is the lr-genesis-plus-gx . I am not sure how its not working.

1. I basically formatted the sd card.
2. Installed the disk image on the sd.
3. Turned on the Raspberry Pi and inserted my USB and waited till it was done.
   However, my PS1 games work. As a side note the bios for that and Sega CD didn't show up in the BIO's folder as it previously did on 4.1

@edmaul69 Can explain more of " Lr-picodrive allows you to swap discs" .
I am using the emulator that comes with RetroPie.

@ThatGuy-UNo in the rgui (pressing select + x while in a game) in the quick menu you can swap the disk when you need to load the second disc

@ThatGuy-UNo also as a note, whenever you add a bios file caps and lowercase are important. Name them exactly like the wiki shows. Even on the file extension.

@edmaul69 Thanks. For now I went back to 4.1. Ill command and conquer this later. Who knows maybe its a bug :p

I have had this problem and found the root cause when launching a game in verbose mode. This is what the log shows:

RetroArch [INFO] :: Environ SYSTEM_DIRECTORY: "/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/segacd/".

It seems that in the latest version of the SegaCD emulators, the BIOS files need to be in the same directory as the roms.

You could try editing /opt/retropie/configs/segacd/retroarch.cfg and explicitly stating the path to your BIOS files, e.g.:

system_directory = "~/RetroPie/BIOS"

Or... you could just copy your BIOS files into the roms directory and see if that fixes it.

@RobotLimeLtd Thank you! Just to be clear on version 4.2, The 'bios' file aka us_scd1_9210.bin goes to the rom folder on SegaCD? And thank you for everyone for replying!

@ThatGuy-UNo no it shouldnt be. the default should be where the wiki says. and if it isn't it needs to be fixed, or you've modified something on your system that has changed the defaults.

@edmaul69 Good point. I didn't think about that as I don't play many multi-disc games and I think the sound quality is better on Genesis Plus GX.

@herb_fargus The Sega CD BIOS files go in the BIOS folder. The Wiki is fine.

@administrators @obsidianspider hmmm Interesting.

1. I probably misunderstood @RobotLimeLtd reply.
2. On my version 4.1, yes I did have the SegaCD bios file in the bios folder. That I know does work.
3. When I went to go update to 4.2. I simply formatted my sd card so there is nothing on it. Installed RetroPie 4.2.
4. Plugged in my USB that has all the roms, bios, configs just like if your adding a new game (not over the internet). If that makes sense.
5. All my games such as NES, MegaDrive, Atari, PS1 (which has bios) all works fine. SegaCD does not. I never once tinkered with where the files.

I love the new fixes on it though.

@administrators " you've modified something on your system that has changed the defaults." What modifications can I have done to make it change? I only have changed the occasional ES themes and changed the splash screen.

Overall thanks for the responses!! Means a lot. I may just install the new update at a later time.
