      Gotcha. That's what I missed. I'm easily confused. :(

Sometimes I need stuff really simplified. I'm just lucky you are all patient.

Although that is what I downloaded... I need to get my laptop on here this evening and verify what I did. I know it downloaded. I'm confused.

Someone just needs to make a darn youtube video from Daphne verify all the way to placing into retropie. AHHHH!!!! lol

That might happen yet it's still considered an experimental emulator at this point. The only thing I couldn't get going was pause via joystick but you can install screenshots, full descriptions, etc. Even in the experimental stage it does run quite well.

Here's most of the steps from that link posted earlier but there's a lot more info and it's worth reading. I had all kinds of issues getting it running and Fin was key in getting Daphne off the ground for me! ;)

Here's the steps if it might help anyone else. Also thanks Caver on the steps to link alternate game ROM versions with the same slate files. That was really handy.

        1. Download and install Daphne Loader
        2. Start Daphne and click "Start" on your preferred game (downloads games via torrent files)
        3. After it downloads the game it will give you a list of qualifying DVD's to authenticate the game
        4. Insert correct DVD and click "Ok" to authenticate
        5. After it completes click "Ok' to start the game and parse the files
        6. Exit the game and Daphne Loader
        7. Browse to the install folder and look for the subdirectory named "vldp_dl"
        8. Under "vldp_dl" look for the game you just installed (i.e. Dragon's Lair=lair; Space Ace=ace; etc.)

You want to copy all the files except the *.bf, *.md5, *.dat files to your Pi using SCP or another program.

The directory structure is defined in the official Wiki here:

        https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Daphne

In step 2 it can take a while depending on your internet connection to download the *.bf files. It seems the *.bf files are some type of encrypted file. It's basically all the *.m2v & *.ogg files encrypted.

In step 4 it can take a while also. It uses the DVD to authenticate all the files but I do not think the downloaded version with the Daphne Loader is the same as the DVD used to authenticate the files. This step uses some decryption key to decrypt the *.bf files to usable *.m2v & *.ogg files after it verifies the DVD. You end up using twice the space as once it completes you have two sets of files the downloaded *.bf files and the decrypted usable files.

From the official Wiki on which versions can be used to authenticate with Daphne:

It is strongly recommended to use the DVD-Video version on the Dragon's Lair 20th Anniversary Box set (3 DVD set). These versions are sometimes marked as PS2/Xbox compatible. All references to 20th Anniversary Edition in this wiki refer to the DVD-Video version.

          Dragon's Lair
Try the 20th anniversary DVD-VIDEO edition, not the PC DVD-ROM.
This single boxset will allow you to play Dragon's Lair, Dragon's Lair II: Timewarp, and Space Ace with Daphne.

WARNING About 20th Anniversary PC DVD-ROM:
Digital Leisure also sells a 3-in-1 20th Anniversary PC DVD-ROM which is not supported by DAPHNE. This has confused several people. DAPHNE only supports the DVD-VIDEO 20th Anniversary edition, which works on a DVD player. The PC DVD-ROM does not work on a DVD player, but instead requires a PC. You can read more in this thread: https://www.daphne-emu.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2525

About Dragon's Lair HD (High Definition):
Digital Leisure also sells a High Definition version of Dragon's Lair called Dragon's Lair HD on PC DVD-Rom. Daphne does not work with this version and we have no plans to make it work at this time.

          Dragon's Lair II: Timewarp
Try the 20th anniversary DVD-VIDEO edition, not the PC DVD-ROM.
This single boxset will allow you to play Dragon's Lair, Dragon's Lair II: Timewarp, and Space Ace with Daphne.

          Space Ace
Try the 20th anniversary DVD-VIDEO edition, not the PC DVD-ROM.

          Thayer's Quest
          Try the DVD Video version.

Really it's not that hard just follow the steps Riverstorm outlines and look at the other thread it shows pictures of the directories and what the structure and file types they need.
Trust me if I can get this working anyone can, I know less than Zero about Linux etc. I make movie props and costumes for a living, autobody before that so about as far from tech as you can get. ;) lol

And just to confuse further. lol Here is a guide I did for using Daphne with Attract Mode frontend if you have any desire to move in that direction.
Daphne setup for Attract mode Rpi

So I have the lair.m2v, lair.ogg, and lair.txt. I have no idea where dle21.zip is nor where dle21.commands and dle21.txt are. I assume dle21.txt is the lair.txt just renamed?

                  @Finhead

Got the files in, and now came across the problem you were having in this thread:

                  https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/52/daphne-help/16

Reading through it trying to fix the issue. It has to do with the the .txt and .zip (which is a small file for me)

to be honest, the .zip file I got I googled because I couldn't find it anywhere when I used daphne loader for the CD rom.

Actually it works! Just now need to figure out the keys and stuff.

I have a joystick and buttons, not using a keyboard or ps4 controller or anything. I assume thats the lair.command file i am missing?

As stated in the WIKI you need to create the command file. Just a reg .txt file named lair.command
Put this in the command file .txt
                        -nocrc -noissues -nolog -noserversend -latency 950 -x 640 -y 480 -bank 1 00110111 -bank 0 10011000

Also you can map your joystick controls by editing the dapinput.ini just read through the wiki I linked you to 4 lines up it goes through the process.

In general with emulation I have found that sometimes things need tweaking here and there. Sometimes what is written down isn't entirely clear or it needs clarification. Sometimes simple video walkthroughs are just what's needed. @Floob 's videos helped explain a ton to me.

                                  @Finhead

So I made the .command file and ran jstest. I am trying to understand the daphne wiki here...

"# The third number is the joystick button code (or 0 for "none")

Since 0 is reserved for special meaning, joystick button 0 is identified

as 1 here. Button 1 is identified as 2, and so on.

Find the button you want to map by running:

                                  jstest /dev/input/js0"

So it's that third number on each line I want to change in the config file, since I am using a joystick and button layout? I ran jstest and the button I want for sword is button "5". I made that attack 1 or what have you as the third number on that line. However, it doesn't seem to be doing it... nor did changing the insert coin and start button... they are backwards on my machine. I figured reversing them would do the trick however they seem to still be unchanged.

This is why I am horrible with emulation. Instructions often don't seem to work out for me.

What controller are you using and have you set it up correctly in retropie? Driver installed etc?

As stated in the .ini file you add 1 to whatever your jstest shows. So if your button you want as a Sword button is a "5" on the jstest make that into a "6" and type that number into
                                    KEY_BUTTON1 = 306 97 6 <--- that's the number you put into that line for the sword.

Ok yeah. It works in retropie and with the other emulators. I will experiment a bit more. It may also be VERY poor timing on my part. Though the joystick is not a button but an "axis" in my jstest

Not sure what you mean by axis? What controller are you using? Are you not assigning the button1 to a acutal button?

Your joystick should be automatically mapped, the only thing you "should" have to do is map the buttons. So you should only be looking at the button test and add 1 to the numbers that would map to the button you want to use.
