@itsnitro
I was kinda wondering the same thing myself. I bet he either used a disposable email or his email was full and was getting bounce backs. He seamed like a cool guy and I doubt he broke any of the rules...except for maybe the email thing. -
-
wow
-
The facebook page admins are also happy with people announcing images there and saying "PM me for a link". So really, the rules don't mean a lot. Hardly good for the project.
Wow indeed... I hate hearing this. I understand that the illegal activity of these Facebook groups can't be avoided wholesale, but it's a shame to see a member of the community here be involved in such a prominent way. I might be marched through the village in shame here, but I have to admit that I've never been a member of Facebook. Is this sort of activity found in all corners? Surely this kind of thing is a liability for them as well, or are they now just an 800 pound gorilla that can sit anywhere?

@mediamogul: When you have a few gazillion members that will convulse and die if they don't get their fix a few hundred times a day, then you can pretty much do whatever the hell you please.
-
@mattrixk @mediamogul
How I imagined @BuZz when firing back at @ChoccyHobNob -
that will convulse and die if they don't get their fix a few hundred times a day
Ha! I guess so. Early on I saw the potential for obsession with Facebook and decided to stay away. Plus, everyone knows all the real action is over at AOL town square.
-
@mediamogul Don't forget MySpace.
-
@mediamogul Pfft! The Prodigy console copiers messageboard is where it's at.
-
Not to be mean or anything, but it didn't make sense at all for him to get banned because of that.

Why ? I would ban anyone else who is involved in distributing retropie with copyrighted roms - it hurts the project. ChoccyHobNob's facebook group openly allows this - even though they say they don't allow direct links. Doesn't really matter when everyone is discussing them and where to get them from (offering links via PM). His reply to me didn't make me think he cared too much - "Discussing pirate images is not against the law". Had he made an effort to clean the group up I may have responded differently.
I can't control what others do on their own sites. But I can choose who hangs out here. I don't see why I should be ok with someone posting here that I think is hurting the project.
-
I stand corrected. I also don't like it when someone drags the RetroPie name through the mud. I would be heart-broken if this community had to be shutdown because of selfish users.
-
wow
at first i was also wondering why the ban, but after reading what was said. i can see it very clearly.
i have had a few discussions with my friends when they wanted help with building their devices, and they said they will go out and buy a pre loaded drive. at that point i washed my hands with helping them other then telling them Google is their friend.

I'll start my saying that this is my favourite of any themes I've tried so far (I'm very new to the Raspberry Pi scene so I'm still only finding my feet) but I do like how clear everything is. The artwork is great and the choices for mascots for each system is very clever (Creatures on the C64 was always one of my favourite games!). I do have a little query though, is it possible to add another system though, Sega Megadrive Japan? There is a Japanese Snes in there but not that. A friend of mine put a Hyperpie image on a card for me just to show what is possible (apologies for any transgressions, I'm only using that as a Base), and only the default theme there shows those games separately.
Thanks again for all your hard work and time on this!

@choccyhobnob I love the theme, but favourites are not working for me in MAME. I cannot sort game list by favorites, only "false" is listed even though I have added several... bug?
-
@andershp you mean "filter", I believe? This wouldn't relate to the theme.
Do you confirm they are effectively marked as favorites (I.e. was the metadata saved?), and are you in the right MAME system?
It might be that they're not refreshing during the same session (that'd be a bug).
A simple way to test is:
- go to that gamelist
- see if you effectively only have "false" for the filter
- mark one as favorite
- go back to the filter and see if it changed anything.
If not, restart ES (assuming you have save metadata turned on) and test again.
If it's still only false, please create a new topic, tag me and send over the gamelist.
-
@pjft It works now in MAME, a restart was required, but I could also add new favorites and they would work immediately. So not really a consistent bug.
I tried in FBA however, and this was almost the same as the other day with MAME, although this time, I could not choose anything to filter from (but these aren't scraped, so maybe that's why).
After a restart, I could filter by fave's and that only (because they're not scraped, and therefore the only metadata is the favorites bit). So I guess if this error happens, a restart is required.
Sorry for spamming this theme thread, since it's probably unrelated as you say, but since I cannot come up with a clear error, I wouldn't want to start a new thread.
-
@andershp ah, correct. If you haven't scrapped something, there's no metadata, so there's nothing to filter for. I suppose after exiting ES it will save the favorites metadata and then the filters will initialize properly. I wouldn't expect that to be the case, but that would explain it.

@stephan311280 The new custom collections funtionality should cover that I think.
