Raspberry pi 4 place your bets here!
-
Yeah, now I won't need to over-clock as much! :)
-
Let's play :)
I assume it will not be available before end of 2018, and component prices will drop in the mean time :- at least a 4 core 2GHz ARM
- 2 Gb RAM mini
- Gb Ethernet
- Wifi a/b/g/ac
- USB 3
The important is I think to confort the large ecosystem RPi currently has, and to keep the prices below 50€
-
@Sano I don't use ethernet so that wouldn't affect me. Wifi all the way!
-
@CodeDrawer I understand, especially for Retropie, but many people use RPi as a Home Server, NAS or Media Player, so this is important IMO.
Cable is good, cable is life ! -
February 28th, 2018.
2GB RAM
1.5GHz processor, ARM, 64Bit
Ethernet, Wifi, Bluetooth, the usual mod-cons.:)
-
I really hope the Pi4 comes with a juicer. That will save me a bunch of steps when I update my arcade setup.
-
I really wish the pi would be able to have a good core to run N64 and PlayStation Games.
Or maybe a way to add more graphics, RAM, and CPU power. I could take an old CPU and put it in the Raspberry Pi to make it much faster and better. -
I think it will happily run n64
-
@itsnitro The problems with N64 emulation are mostly at the software level and not so much at the hardware level, so throwing extra horsepower at it might not actually make emulation all that much better, but the Pi 3 runs PSX games surprisingly smooth for a $35 computer, even without overclocking. That and graphically, I think PSX games look even crisper emulated on a Pi 3 than on a PS2 or PS3.
-
@Eldrethor So what would we do to make n64 games run better?
-
@CodeDrawer i had a N64 back in these days and loved it!!
So i always tried to emulate this system as good as possible.
I had the best results with project x on Windows.
With a Pi4 it might be a bigger topic than now but my recommendation in our days for people who like N64?
Get yourself an everdrive and a real N64 System!
I did so and can now even play all those games that will never run on an emulator (U-Code) and even 64DD-Titles.
I use the Pi3 for everything else and am a very happy retro-gamer with this setup 😊 -
@sirhenrythe5th Do you know how much an N64 costs?

I doubt it'll be anytime soon, but perhaps there's a more intriguing pi development in the making;

I wonder if it will have wifi?!
-
@lilbud I don't see on-card storage ever happening.
-
Wasn't there an official statement a while back stating the Pi 3 would have at least a 3 year life before another would be released? If that's the case I could see a near 2Ghz processor and 2 GB of RAM. I don't see on-board storage being a thing mainly because of keeping the cost at or near the $35 price point. I'd almost wish they would come out with a premium Pi for $50 that has significantly better specs but it's fun to see what can be done with what they give us. I'd think they would eventually max out tech at that price point if they don't slow down releases.
-
I wonder if they do this will they be pulling away from there original plan to get computers that are cheep into the hands of kids. But I am all for an upgrade for our use and would like to see a smaller and more powerful board.
-
@Trailjacker @glennlake You are right glen, and I would like to see a better board for 50$... but I want to see much more then anything, is a 64 bit kernel.
-
@CodeDrawer i payed 70 Euros for a purple one in a mint condition, like new.
Got it also from ebay from a german seller.
In combination with the everdrive it was indeed one of the best investments since i am a gamer (31 years by now ☺). -
@sirhenrythe5th yeah shipping I have to consider... it will cost more then the product I buy most of the time. I had 18$ of snes remotes, and shipping made it 54$
-
@CodeDrawer ic! Of course: thats an issue 😔
I realize that prices for retro games and systems are very different between europe and overseas.
On the other handside i was in paradise when i was on a fleemarket in Pennsylvania in 2009.
Sega Saturn-Games for 1$!, you pay a lot more for them here in europe!Maybe you keep the idea of a real N64+Everdrive in mind for the furure - it is really worth the money for everyone who loves the N64/Ultra64 System. 👍😎
