    I'm now trying to run MSX on retropie. I have added the games in the msx folder and I can see them, but when I click on one, it just goes blank for a few seconds and I am back at the menu.
    I'm thinking maybe I put the Bios Roms in the wrong place.
    Can anyone confirm where to put the bios files and which are required?
    Thanks.

      @Seeker

      BIOS locations for the MSX emulators can be found here. The location depends on which emulator you're using.

        @mediamogul bluemsx for some requires the whole set even if you're just using one system unless I've missed something

          I think you're right. Seems like I remember having to install the whole set

          @Seeker

          To get the keyboard operational in lr-bluemsx include the following in /opt/retropie/configs/msx/retroarch.cfg:

          input_libretro_device_p2 = "3"

          I should really add that to the docs.

            @mediamogul this is an aside to it all but yes that's a helpful hint. As far as upstream goes I'm still waiting for them to enable the colecovision part of it as well, it functions and runs games but it has no controls coded yet. Perhaps if I'm ambitious I'll put in a bounty for it.

              the colecovision part... functions and runs games... Perhaps if I'm ambitious I'll put in a bounty for it.

              It would be great to have that as an option. As much as I like CoolCV, being closed source, it's always a twist of fate from being pushed off the table.

                Thanks for the replies.
                I am using openmsx, and I've read the wiki but I'm still confused.
                DO I place the bios roms in the bios folder of retropie like I did with the Atari roms, or is it in another folder?
                For MSX, there are the roms correct?
                MSX.ROM - PHILIPSDISK.ROM
                MSX2 : MSX2.ROM - MSX2EXT.ROM - MSX2PMUS.ROM - MOONSOUND.ROM - XBASIC2.ROM - PHILIPSDISK.ROM

                  OpenMSX is indeed a bit trickier because you have the option to emulate so many different models. In fact, by default it's set to emulate a MSX2+ using an included simulated BIOS. To use real MSX BIOS files, OpenMSX must be told to do so using these instructions. As far as the location of where to put the BIOS files, the guide says that either /opt/retropie/emulators/openmsx/share/systemroms or ~/.openMSX/share/systemroms should work. I seem to remember using the OpenMSX console to redirect BIOS location to the RetroPie BIOS directory, but I may have just done that as a personal preference.

                    @mediamogul generally if its symlinked to the bios or so it would be around here:

                    https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/blob/master/scriptmodules/emulators/openmsx.sh#L45

                    But since it's not all that popular and is a tad more complicated with the versions of systems we probably just haven't gotten to symlinking the bios folder for it yet. Probably should at some point....

                      Good to know. lr-bluemsx works pretty well in most situations. I forget why I switched over to OpenMSX. It may have had something to do with peripheral support.
