Someone mentioned in another thread that he cloned the main branch and changed the colors in the code. And i think someone else said that they have it on their ToDo list to make it themeable with themes. But i can't find the threads and don't know how far progress is made yet.

Changing colors of Menu text is actually easy. Font is difficult as it originates from theme while color is hard coded

@Hex Yeah, but like I said someone was able to change the hardcoded colors. And from what I remember it was pretty easy to do. It was some sort of Xbox style theme where the menu was blackish with green text I think. At the time there was so much work done on different versions of Emulationstation so I never tried it myself (because I hate the white menu too) and I forgot to bookmark it. And like I said, I can't find it now, because I'm to stupid or the search function is bad.

@EctoOne, @backstander posted the link above. I guess this is the one you are looking for.

@Hex No, it isn't. Your question was asked before in another thread and someone posted an answer with a screenshot of his build with the black options menu.

@AlexMurphy Yes, but the wrong thread. I looked through his posts and found the right one. https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/9171/xcade-custom-theme/20

Someone actually managed to theme the help and options menu. @jacobfk20 did it a few months ago.

He got it to be a themeable element and merged it into his ES fork, which also contains grid view.

                    Here it is: https://github.com/jacobfk20/EmulationStation/tree/Release-beta

But sadly he hasn't been active in a while, and the last thing he did on this fork was in December

@lilbud Jeez, that font really annoys me for some reason... but I'm liking the grid- view. Might be a pain scrolling through hundreds of mame titles but would work well on systems with a compact library.

Here is a link to the code in that build for changing font. I don't know how to implement this, but if someone is up to the challenge it could be interesting:

                        menu font

I could only find a hard code change from 2012 that changed the color of the menu.

@lilbud Huh, interesting. I've seen this before but never noticed that it had the themeable menu. Probably because at that point I wasn't interested in that feature and the lack of updates. Maybe someone of our other great coders can adapt his changes.
