OK, the fact that launching doom2.sh throws up an error that says it can't find doom2.sh is odd, so let's drop to the command line and type:

      nano /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/doom2.sh

near the very end, right before "lr-prboom", make sure it reads "doom2.wad" and not "doom2.sh".

I'm going to try breaking my installation in a few different ways to see if I can replicate this. In the mean time, if anyone else sees an error unnoticed so far, feel free to chime in.

Well, it tells us that we haven't broken any of the furniture that was already there. ;)

At worst we'll start you over from this process. There's o need for a full reinstall.

Well, I could not reproduce that error. Where and when exactly does it appear?

Another couple of things to check are:

                        • Check to make sure "doom2.wad" is located in /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/doom/?
                        • Check for any upper or lower case mistakes in file names, as well as possible spaces
                        • Check that every character is exactly as it is written in the example above.

Any discrepancies with these elements will prohibit the game from launching.

@mediamogul ok so what im going to do is just write the disk image off my sd card and send you the file you just have to write it to a empty sd card. im gonna try doing it from a fresh new boot of retropie. and yes the doom wads are in the correct place

There's really no need to send me anything. However, if you want to approach this again using a fresh install on your end, it might have an unforeseen advantage. If you didn't do so last time, try using ssh from your main computer and copy/pasting the input remotely. This will help eliminate any possible discrepancies.

It can be frustrating, I know, but I find it best to take a break and come back to a problem later when progress seems to be stalled. I'm sorry we didn't get you set up here and now, but I feel confident you'll crack this wide open with a little time, trial and error. Also, anyone else who wants to offer better advice on this than my own, please feel free. You certainly won't offend me.

To @TheDevastator24, or anyone else who happens upon this in the future, it seems as though the problem here was that the international keyboard setting needed to be changed. The revelation comes from project leader @herb_fargus in this thread while troubleshooting another issue.

Without TheDevastator24 here to confirm, it's just strong speculation, but it's likely that this should allow the previous instructions above to work for those who might otherwise run into trouble. It makes sense as the method works for me and I set my keyboard localization early on, but as always, your mileage may vary.

Ha!... and just when you think you know people. So, BuZz is the one making making all the real money in this crazy pyramid scheme? I see. I honestly can't say where I picked up any hierarchy at all. It's kind of like when the Olsen twins started appearing together in public. I always thought that Mary-Kate was in charge, but in hindsight, it's clear that Ashley was the one calling the shots. ;)

@mediamogul Hi there. Sorry to bump an old thread, but I am brand new to the RetroPie world and have spent quite a bit of time now getting my new machine set up. Apologies in advance for the n00b speak.

I am trying to run all Doom WADS under Ports and coming up with "Permission Denied" errors for each of the four. I have the Wad files in the right place and created the appropriate scripts using the commands from the wiki.

It sounds like I need to run a SUDO command to allow the scripts to run but the pickle is this: I do not own a USB keyboard to type in any commands. I use a controller exclusively to keep my RetroPie feeling like an old school console and don't really want to go down the keyboard route unless it's absolutely necessary. Is there some sort of text I can add to my existing .sh file that will allow this to be easily executed from EmulationStation using my controller pad?
