With the recent Steam Early Access for Fire Pro Wrestling World, it got me thinking of the wrestling games I used to play such as WCW vs NWO World Tour, and Revenge. As well as WWF No Mercy.

I also liked the Smack Down series, but it wasn't till a few years later when I discovered Fire Pro Wrestling. The community for that series is just dedicated.

How about anyone else here? Play any of the old WWF arcade or some other wrestling games?

The 'Fire Pro Wrestling' series is amazing. In fact, as far as retro wrestling games go that are playable on RetroPie, it really doesn't get any better than 'Super Fire Pro Wrestling X Premium' for the SNES. It's the first and best wrestling simulator of it's time and I believe the first game to have a 'Create a Wrestler' feature, allowing up to 80 custom wrestlers. On my setup, I have seven different save files, each packed with the top 80 names from ECW, early 2000-era WWE, Classic WWF and Classic WCW, as well as save files for international and crossover matches. All-in-all, it amounts to nearly 600 wrestlers. It's a lot of fun and has a great balance between arcade action and being a simulator.

I've had my eye on that new Fire Pro on Steam as well. I've never really played it before but have read about it many times over the years. I did toy with the SNES version on my Pi but just never had the time to dive fully into it. I love what @mediamogul is describing. That's really cool. I think I'm going to jump in on this one though. It sounds awesome.

Exciting Hour/Mat Mania, The Main Event (Konami), WWF Superstars and WWF Wrestlefest are always my go-to arcade titles. I love all of them. I thought The Main Event was amazing in the arcade days.

I played alot of WCW World Tour, Revenge, and Wrestlemania 2000 in the N64 days as well. Those were great multiplayer games.

I think the new Steam version will be awesome as the community develops content etc.

@rumblinbuffalo Hopefully WWE won't issue DMCA take down for content creation.

For anyone looking to go as retro as possible and still have great play mechanics, Nintendo's 'Pro Wrestling' for the NES is still a blast to play after all these years. It was actually developed by a company named 'TRY' that would eventually go onto become 'HUMAN', who were responsible for starting the 'Fire Pro Wrestling' series.

'WWF Superstars' and 'WWF Wrestlefest' are indeed amazing arcade wrestling games and in my opinion the only truly good licensed games of their era on any hardware. Another arcade wrestling game that, while light on simulation, is heavy on high-octane excitement is Capcom's 'Saturday Night Slam Masters'. Anyone familiar with Mike Haggar's backstory from 'Final Fight' knows that he, before being Mayor of Metro City, was supposed to have had a career as a professional wrestler. In that regard, 'Saturday Night Slam Masters' serves as somewhat of a prequel to 'Final Fight', as Haggar is a selectable character who is even accompanied to the ring by his daughter, Jessica.

Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 for the n64 + English Translation patch is the greatest wrestling game ever made. Better than no mercy and wcw nwo revenge. I highly recommend it for those of you on the raspberry pi3. Does anyone know if mods are supported on the n64 emulators on retropie? For example there is a mod for the n64 version of no mercy that replaces/adds over 80+ wrestler from different organizations however it is only for Project 64 om windows. Is there any way to get them to work on retropie with enough tinkering ?

If a mod can be applied directly to the ROM, any emulator has a solid chance of running it. You may want to see if you can find an IPS patch file for that particular modification.

Thanks for the info I will look into that but I doubt it will work with a simple IPS patch as these mods are total conversion mods requiring custom hacks, textures/save files etc. Below is an example of one of the mods I am referring to. The authors state that they will only work on Project 64 so I'm guessing there is no way to get them working on retropie.

I have a few N64 games that were completely overhauled from only an IPS patch. The save files shouldn't be that hard to integrate either. That said, the person who developed the hack may have indeed thrown in a few curve balls that might make it impossible.

Bought Fire Pro World, so far not bad. The game play is smooth as always and with steam workshop this may be the best Fire Pro yet . The menu needs a little work to avoid confusion, and perhaps an option to add custom music.

Yes I fear that is the case and unfortunately there aren't too many people into modding the n64 wrestling games(in the retropie community) to make the total conversion mod that is intended for Project 64 on Windows work on the n64 emus in retropie. What games on n64 have you been able to overhaul via IPS patch to play on retropie out of curiosity?

I have a Pi3 and don't really like to run N64 games on RetroPie due to performance issues, but I have a few 'Mario 64', 'Golden Eye' and 'F-Zero' conversion hacks that I've patched and played on other systems over the years.

@mediamogul Yeah Unfortunately N64 games are still kinda hard to run. Its a shame cause if it had better support I would totally install WCW vs NWO and Virtual Pro.

I run both of these games almost everyday on a Stock rpi3 and they work perfectly fine for me.

Personally, I've been burned on so many occasions by investing time into an emulated N64 game, only to find major flaws deep into the game, that I've made it a policy to stay away from N64 emulation on any platform. Still, it's great to hear these particular games are a viable option.

For me, its all about WCW/NWO revenge for N64. I found that to be the funnest and I pretty much stopped playing wrestling games after I was done with that one.

@mediamogul Yes, it seems N64 emulation is a fine art, that's for sure. I think Gamecube and Wii emulation is in a better state these days, lol. I actually never found N64 visuals particularly appealing either so for me it's not really worth it. I always preferred Playstation. No texture filtering, but at least the textures were often more detailed. Can't handle all the fog on N64 either. It certainly has some great games though. Would love to play the original Rouge Squadron again.

Does a simple overclock improve N64 performance at all? That's the only system that has quirks for me, mostly in the sound falling of or breaking up. I imagine there's something that prioritizes video, which is why the audio goes first...

                                          Also, wrestling :)
