@pjft Thanks, I will look into this in the coming days, I used to have a default theme when I was completing all of the others so that the theme would not break, I will look into what i can do. I will have to look at what change might need to take place to use @jdrassa new features. I followed his thread enough to know it won't break old theme code, but not sure if i can just implement portions of his new work or not? It is on my to do list, but probably not until after i get splash screens created.

@TMNTturtlguy Sure, not in any way urgent - it's more to support any collections people might want to setup, rather than having to ask you for custom themes for every single one :)

I believe it's just a "theme.xml" file on the root folder of the theme that will be used for a default theme should a folder for the system not exist. I think there's a few other new things, though, like the ability to set the font for the logo text and color in case there's no system logo image (which likely won't, for a default system theme as you won't know the name in advance).

But not a big problem there.

        Thanks! Hope you're doing great.

Sorry @TMNTturtlguy for this off topic post.

I had an idea for after you added collections, is there a possibility you could add an option for a upper layer for the carousel that has these (All, Computers, Consoles, Favorites, Handhelds, Arcades, and Collections).

You would choose one like it was a system then it would open another layer of the carousel that would have the systems or collections available for that choice. It would make it a lot easier to find things quicker for those of us with 20+ systems.

I understand if this wouldn't work with how ES currently works and I totally stole this idea from Launchbox.

@TMNTturtlguy sorry again for this off topic post, also have you thought about doing launch images for the systems eventually?

@Syhles i will be doing launching screens, I think I have been calling them splshscreens, but look above in the posts and you can see examples of what I am working on.

As for your request for the carousel, that would be a major overhaul of a lot of things including ES and how the themes themselves work. Basically everthing would need to change! Wait for @pjft next update with collections and I think they may be somewhat inline with what you are looking for.

@Syhles Hi, and thanks for the feedback.

I can't say that that hasn't been something that has crossed my mind in the past. It would certainly be something useful to have.

Alas, as @TMNTturtlguy , it would likely require a tremendous rearchitecture of how things are organized, both at the data level as well as the code level.

It's not that it'd be impossible, but it certainly isn't a small undertaking, nor one I'd have a tremendous experience with in regards to that part of the code.

The collections will either be at the top level, or as a subfolder under the "My Collections" system - user choice. But that's as far as it'll get in terms of system organization, at least for the foreseeable future.

              Best.

@TMNTturtlguy When I loaded the TMNTturtleguy ComicBook_SE-Wheelart theme through emulation station, there was a 60 meg .git folder that got loaded too. Is this something that is required or can it be deleted from the installation?

@hurricanefan I am not a hundred percent sure why git puts that folder in there. It is not something I upload. I know for sure if you copy the theme out of the folder you downloaded it to and place it in /home/pi/.emulationstation/themes/ you can delete it.

FYI - I think you need to use sudo rm -r to delete it.

@tmntturtlguy @meleu Thanks. Is there a way to fix this so other users don't lose the extra disk space on install of this theme?

@hurricanefan it's a fair request. It can be done in esthemes scriptmodule. I'll try to submit a Pull Request when I have a chance.

@meleu can you also add this theme : https://github.com/rxbrad/es-theme-gbz35

There is also a dark variant on different branch

Sent from 20,000 leagues under the sea.

                              Yep

Every theme in esthemes scriptmodule must be the master branch on its own repo. Then, the dark theme can't be installed via RetroPie-Setup.

@meleu I thought so. The syntax is "author repo" isnt it.

Just wanted to say thanks so much for this theme. Absolutely amazing work, and even nicer with the boot up video. Awesome!

Is there anywhere I can download those nice launch images from earlier in the thread, just to add an extra layer of finish to my Pi? They look fantastic.

@ranma Thanks! The launch images are not completed yet, I have been swamped with work and kids and just haven't had time to commit them. I hope to work on them in the next week and have them all posted with download links. Thanks

Oh, please don't think I'm applying pressure! I know you guys do this for the love!

On that note, is there somewhere I can donate a pint of your favourite beverage to you?

@tmntturtlguy well, being swamped with kids is a sure recipe to get in trouble at home. :)

@ranma No pressure at all, i need to set deadlines in my life or nothing will get done. It is my goal to get working on them, but we will see how life goes this week!

As for donations, thanks for asking....I guess i always have just done this for fun and never expect anything in return. There are a ton of people in the community that do so much more work than I do, and it is my pleasure to share my work in return.

Since it is so hot out today and you were kind enough to ask, I have created a link to my paypal in my profile. I don't want to create a link in my signature or advertise this as I am not looking for donations or payments, I get enjoyment out of creating and sharing and all the kind words. Feel free to visit my profile, but I do not expect, request, or ask in anyway for anything. Thank you for your extreme kindness!

@pjft How have you been good sir? How are your kids and family? Hope all is well.

We just had a 3rd birthday party for my 3 year old yesterday and all our extended family just left! It was a whirlwind of excitement. Add that to the travel and the big projects we have underway for work and as you say is can be a sure recipe for trouble! The good news is that I keep my priorities in check, and unfortunately that means my arcade/retropie projects need to take a back seat, I am hoping that fall will bring a slower period at work, but fall is still a few months away!

I hope you are having a great weekend as well. Your continued work on ES is second to none, i am not sure how you do it! Have a great Sunday evening.
