@mediamogul Lol, yes i played that game briefly, it was fun. Yes it could very well be what he dreams of. I think the game was more of a practical joke on Namco's part, but i'm just guessing. Anyway the control was good and the cartoonish graphics were enjoyable.

          and yes, E.T

I don't care what anyone says, 'E.T.' is an incredibly sophisticated game for the 2600. If the hit detection had simply been a little more forgiving, I don't think it would have the reputation it does now. Make sure you check out 'H.E.R.O.', if you haven't before. It's another highly sophisticated game, yet with a AAA reputation, that stands shoulder to shoulder with the likes of 'Pitfall II'.

There is a homebrew altered version of ET here: http://www.neocomputer.org/projects/et/ . Alters the collision detection. However, I find that if you follow the manual closely the coll.dect. isn't that awful. You just need to remember to walk straight left or right. Not diagonally (Manual, chapter six, tip 5).

          Have fun w/ E.T. :-)

Wow, that's great. I might have to give that a try. I'm not sure I'd Know how to cope without the terror of possibly falling into those pits. I suppose I'm institutionalized like Brooks from 'Shawshank Redemption'. Wait a minute... His experience seems all too familiar now that I think about it.

"The parole board got me into this halfway house called the Brewer... I have trouble sleeping at night. I have bad dreams, like I'm falling. I wake up scared. Sometimes it takes me a while to remember where I am."

Maybe the halfway house had a 2600.

I just can't stop playing Metal Slug, the whole series in sequence is such a gem to replay.

Haha DUDE! That is exactly what I'm doing now! I have all the Neo Geo roms and going to play ALL the Metal Slug titles.

Haha it's gonna be way fun. There's this continuity when you start from the first and work all the way to X. And watch out for all the little details, so many I never noticed when I first played them all those years ago, you can tell they really put a lot of love into the series. And somehow it still feels so current, what with the aliens and the zombies and the mideast themes. Probably my all time favorite title. My reflexes are not what they used to be so I cheated and went free play, hope you're doing better!

@dankcushions thank you for posting the Gokujyo Parodius Arcade link. May I ask which mame emulator you are using and any special settings? Are you using mame4all?

Hey there. Won't work with mame4all, too old. G. Parodius runs perfectly with lr-mame2003, no special settings needed. Make sure you have the proper .78 romset.

Under lr-mame2003 I am unable to get .78 romset version of gokuparo.zip to work. When I launch it, just shows black screen and returns back to Retropie. What is your zip file size? Any ideas?

For some reason it really reminds me of Indiana Jones. An another fun fact is I rescued a POW, and when I was done with the stage I got to see his name, it was an Asian name... While all the POW's in the game are all blonde and have a Caucasian appearance haha.

Dug around my system for a bit and bingo! Found it, completely forgot about it but thankfully the filename isn't cryptic so that jogged my memory. You need a bios file named konamigx.zip - Gokujyo Parodius is one of the few Konami games that came on a Konami GX JAMMA main board. There were a couple of sub-types of that board, now what I don't remember is where I got my working bios from, so look for one that is 8712 Bytes.

I play Donkey Kong II, both physically and through RetroArch, whenever I get a chance. I recently came across my old Mattel 'Masters of the Universe' LCD game from 1982. Seeing as how it's a clone of the extremely popular 'Dungeons & Dragons' from the year before, it might very well be the best He-Man video game of the era. Good stuff.

Edit: I've also recently been hooked on 'Escape From the Planet of the Robot Monsters' Arcade game. The gameplay is fantastic and the graphics are so perfectly of it's time that it looks like an idealized parody of an 80s arcade game from a movie. I highly recommend it.
