Bought Fire Pro World, so far not bad. The game play is smooth as always and with steam workshop this may be the best Fire Pro yet . The menu needs a little work to avoid confusion, and perhaps an option to add custom music.

I doubt it will work with a simple IPS patch as these mods are total conversion mods requiring custom hacks, textures/save files etc.
I have a few N64 games that were completely overhauled from only an IPS patch. The save files shouldn't be that hard to integrate either. That said, the person who developed the hack may have indeed thrown in a few curve balls that might make it impossible.
Yes I fear that is the case and unfortunately there aren't too many people into modding the n64 wrestling games(in the retropie community) to make the total conversion mod that is intended for Project 64 on Windows work on the n64 emus in retropie. What games on n64 have you been able to overhaul via IPS patch to play on retropie out of curiosity?

I have a Pi3 and don't really like to run N64 games on RetroPie due to performance issues, but I have a few 'Mario 64', 'Golden Eye' and 'F-Zero' conversion hacks that I've patched and played on other systems over the years.

@mediamogul Yeah Unfortunately N64 games are still kinda hard to run. Its a shame cause if it had better support I would totally install WCW vs NWO and Virtual Pro.

I run both of these games almost everyday on a Stock rpi3 and they work perfectly fine for me.

Personally, I've been burned on so many occasions by investing time into an emulated N64 game, only to find major flaws deep into the game, that I've made it a policy to stay away from N64 emulation on any platform. Still, it's great to hear these particular games are a viable option.

I was a huge fan of WCW vs NWO World Tour and WWF No Mercy! My brother and I used to take turns playing that for hours :)

For me, its all about WCW/NWO revenge for N64. I found that to be the funnest and I pretty much stopped playing wrestling games after I was done with that one.

@mediamogul Yes, it seems N64 emulation is a fine art, that's for sure. I think Gamecube and Wii emulation is in a better state these days, lol. I actually never found N64 visuals particularly appealing either so for me it's not really worth it. I always preferred Playstation. No texture filtering, but at least the textures were often more detailed. Can't handle all the fog on N64 either. It certainly has some great games though. Would love to play the original Rouge Squadron again.

Does a simple overclock improve N64 performance at all? That's the only system that has quirks for me, mostly in the sound falling of or breaking up. I imagine there's something that prioritizes video, which is why the audio goes first...

It gives some titles the boost they need to play acceptably, but a lot of the games are still just too intensive. Some will surprise you though. 'DOOM 64' seems like it would be a bear, but it plays pretty smoothly.
Edit: Oh yeah... and wrestling.

@ohmycommodore There is an improvement with an overclock, but it is minor. If you don't run the emulator at HD resolutions it helps, because the GPU seems to have to work hard for N64 emulation which slows it down. I refuse to lower the resolution below HD however because it looks atrocious on my HD plasma screen, so most of the time I just don't bother with N64. I personally think the overall issues with N64 emulation are with the emulator itself. In my experience it's kind of buggy, and the main reason for that is N64 is difficult to emulate because of its quirks. If the emulator was further developed and optimized with the Pi platform in mind however, I'm sure most games would run at full speed without issue, but I've not a dev so just guessing.

While general N64 emulation has no shortage of problems, the main issues here stem primarily from trying to support the Pi's outdated GPU. The head developer of Mupen64Plus has mentioned concerns on a few occasions that he may not be able to support the platform for much longer without an update.

@mediamogul I see, yes that makes sense, and its certainly not my intention to insult the devs work, so I hope I did not come across that way with my previous statement. I'm really hoping for an updated GPU when we finally get the Pi4, but as I understand it, that is a ways off yet unfortunately.

I don't believe it came off that way. The guy's a miracle worker, but I'm sure he'll be the first to admit that you can't get blood from a stone.
I'm really hoping for an updated GPU when we finally get the Pi4, but as I understand it, that is a ways off yet unfortunately.
I hope so too. If they keep with past calendar conventions, we could see an update as early as next February.

@mediamogul Ok thats good. Yes that is understandable. Code can only be optimized so much and hardware limitations in this case remain constant.
