Konami has made some dumb decisions in more recent years, but mostly in the retro days, nobody can deny that Konami was the sh*t. But even retro Konami made some bone head moves, and one of those was never bringing the TwinBee Series to the USA.

The best entries in the series appeared on the SNES, and were released in Japan and Europe. The best way to play both entries in english and NTSC are via the hacks below:

      Pop'n Twinbee (SNES)
This is an amazing vertical scrolling cute'em up game. The graphics and music are top notch and the challenge is true Konami hardcore. In this case the European and Japanese versions are pretty much the same, so obviously the best way to play it would be the EU version since it's in english... but of course PAL games run slow by default because of 50 vs. 60hz standards. This hack is the NTSC hack for the (EU) version of Pop'n Twinbee. Brings it up to speed.

Pop'n Twinbee Rainbow Bell Adventure (SNES)
This was a crazed departure for the series, it took the series from a vertical shooter to a wild side scrolling action adventure that is a weird mix of Super Mario, Sonic the Hedgehog and Rocket Knight Adventures... If that didn't sell you on the awesome, I don't know what will! Anyway, the Jap and EU versions this time around are vastly different. The EU version strips out the save feature, the between stage dialog and selectable world map, all the secret exits and basically all the fun extras that add to replay. SO the best way to play this game is by using the Aeon Genesis translation patch and playing the original Japanese version in all it's glory! Patch is here:

              Bio Miracle Baby Upa NES
Near the end of the Famicom lifespan, Konami started to get weird. Bio Miracle Baby Upa is one of those weird games. It's pretty fun! Here is a translation hack: www.romhacking.net/translations/676/

                King of Demons SNES
This is a really neat game on SNES. The best way to describe it, is that a group of talented developers started a Castlevania clone on genesis (the sprite work has a very genesis feel), decided it would be cooler with a gun in modern times instead of the classic Castlevania setting, and then decided to move the whole project over to SNES and make it badass! The japanese name of this game is Majuu Ou and the translation patch is here: https://www.romhacking.net/translations/649/

Seriously watch until the second level of this game (in the first 6 minutes) when the giant grub worm the size of the whole screen is following you through the cave just before you fall through the floor. A masterpiece!

                  Gundam Wing Endless Duel SNES
My theory is somebody made a Neo Geo game, figured it wouldnt sell and literally dropped it right on to SNES making no changes at all. This game is ridiculous, huge sprites, amazing animation, great gameplay, balanced fighting mechanics! Why they never brought this to the US is beyond me (probably because Gundam isn't well known over here). Translation patch: https://www.romhacking.net/translations/570/

                    Super Mario Logic (SNES)
Deriving from Super Mario World, this hack is pretty amazing. It's hard, but good. It's one of those puzzle games where you have to get to the question mark orb to finish the level. It's so fun.

This was recommended to me in another thread (maybe even by @Capeman):

                        Cheetahmen II (NES):

This game is crap. Absolute crap. And before this patch, it was unbeatable crap. Even when you can beat it, it's still crap. I just played it for a half hour last night because i had to and i can tell you it's crap.

The original patch can be found on Romhacking, but was further refined by @mediamogul (who is apparently some kind of masochist, haha).

His patch which removes any "improvments" in the original patch, to make the game beatable but as authentically bad as possible. It can be found on this thread.

Another good hack is the super Mario 64 multiplayer hack. It allows a second player to control Luigi, I haven't played a lot of it, but it's pretty fun. Besides the troublesome n64 emulation in general the only problem is that the camera is even more annoying.

Some good rom hacks off the top of my head:

                              For SNES:

                              Chrono Trigger: Prophet's Guile

                              Chrono Trigger: Flames of Eternity

Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes (leaked 100% patch)

                              Bahamut Lagoon (English Translation)

                              For Sega Genesis:

                              Spindash in Sonic 1

                              Tails in Sonic 1

                              Knuckles in Sonic 1

                              Yoshi in Sonic 2

                              Sonic Tetris

                              For N64:

                              Super Mario 64 Star Road

                                    Sonic 2 XL - Genesis
Wow... Every ring in the entire game is replace with onion rings, and the more you collect, the fatter sonic gets. You can work off the fat by running, but if you get too fat, you can't move and you die. It's adds a whole new dynamic to the game, and the animations of sonic rolling when he's morbidly obese is hysterical! A must play for sure!

@hooperre Yes, it modernizes the controls a lot so the game is a little easier. Though don't take my word for it, I haven't played Earthbound in about a year or so.
