No Audio using Raspberry Pi 3
-
Hey everyone,
So I am new to the forums, and very new to even basic coding. So play nice please :)
I am really just trying to use my Raspberry Pi 3 to play classic games on. All fine and dandy- basic setup with RetroPie, nothing fancy. I used their image directly from their website, it boots up fine with 0 problems. I loaded up my Streets of Rage 2 ROM and.. no sound.
I of course searched the internet, presuming it would be an easy fix after I tried all the options in the menus I could think of. I followed this:
Seemed easy enough.. remove a hashtag, add a couple lines, voila. I verified I made all the changes, but still no sound.
My setup is simple: PS4 controller via USB, a USB Keyboard, Pi 3 with RetroPie as the only OS, connected directly via HDMI to my Samsung TV.
Video is fine as I stated, 0 issues getting ROMs to boot, no visual glitches, nothing. Just 0 sound from both the GUI or the games.
I feel like I'm missing something super easy but am just so frustrated that it's just being dumb. Also, because I'm a total noob, I purchased the package from this Amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01C6Q2GSY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Attachment of config files: (PLEASE USE PASTEBIN.COM FOR LARGE LOGS)Any advice beyond what was given, or if it seems I am missing a simple step, I would greatly appreciate it!
Also as an aside, I would LOVE to use my ps4 controller wirelessly with the Pi 3.. is that possible? I haven't even looked into that yet, been too busy trying to get this audio thing situated!
Thanks,

@tha16thletter if you already removed the hashtag for hdmi_drive=2 and restarted and it didnt work, also add this line:
hdmi_force_edid_audio=1
-
Hey @edmaul69 thank you for the reply. I did add that line. Based on the youtube video, I also added the following TWO lines:
hdmi_force_hotplug=1
hdmi_force_edid_audio=1Still, no audio. Ugh!
Any other suggestion? Or maybe something I'm just overlooking?

Does your TV have a fancy setup? My TV has audio going to a DVD player which is connected to some speakers. I've found that HDMI audio doesn't work with this setup, and I have to turn the TV speakers on when using the Pi.
-
@tha16thletter Have you tried a different HDMI cable? Or tried the bad one on another device (DVD, etc)?

Nope! I have my PS4 going directly into my soundbar, but my Pi is going directly into the HDMI on my TV.
Dumb question (maybe), but does it matter which port the HDMI is in as far as if I choose 1, 2 etc in the numbering of the additional lines in the config? Because my PS4 has the HDMI 1 on my TV; the Pi is in 2.
I did turn the audio up on the TV fully (that was my first thought), but still no sound :(

@tha16thletter when you are in emulationstation when you click the start button and go to the sound option, is the volume turned all the way up? Also if you still havent tried, i too would recommend an hdmi cable. But note, that the force edid audio can disable audio on some tv's so everything you try you have to try with and without the force edid audio on. But keep hdmi_drive=2 on the whole time.

Hey guys,
Thank you so much for your assistance. It was not the HDMI cable itself, however, once I changed the ports on the back of my TV it is working! Now I just need to switch to make sure my PS4 isn't taking the punishment lol.

@tha16thletter You normally have to manually change the port your using on your tv for different devices. Should be a "source or Input" button on your remote for the tv. Most tv's now have TV AV HDMI 1 HDMI 2 and PC
-
@bytethis right, and I changed the source of course to see the video. But it didn't work until I changed the pi from the HDMI2 on the back of my TV to the HDMI1.
Boom, plenty of sound.
Very happy!
Thanks again,
Paul
