Project Brutality (Zdoom) Works??
-
@edmaul69 what you mean backticks? It shows up Just like it is in the ini for me? Ill try to clean it up for you .
Also i did what you said when the game is starting it saus press a to configure or whatever do i changed the video mode for Zdoom to very low 800x600 even lower then yours i then went into Valiant i there also changed my resolution top very low and it still lags outside by the boxes i even set it to easiest diffeculty so theres less monsters but still very laggy even when i change the video mode to lowest and the game too it stil laggy j dont get it its smooth inside building when i go outside it lags like it seems its running at like 12-15fps.
Im scared i wont be able to fix it :( unless u know something..Edit;hmm i Just tried the lowest resolution possible 320x and that one is no lag so its a resolution issue? But 320 is way to ugly to use but anything above 320x it start to lag in Valiant outside so in not sure what to do i dont understand how your rpi can handle it on 1024x
-
@retrofreak89 did you make both video screens look identical to mine. based on your ini they are not the same. and did you do like i said when you choose a game it says "press a button to configure, did you change the video to dmt-16? and the backtick is the key right under the esc key.. this is a back tick ` . you have to type 3 of them above and below your config. then your config will look like this:
your config will be in a black box
-
@edmaul69 yes i changed the settings to exactly like yours i also changed the video mode settings of Zdoom like u said when u boot up press any key to change it i did that i set it to the lowest possible which was 800x600 i believe but it still lagged..
Strange is ofi run it at 340x resolution then its fine but thats way to low even 480x380 lags :/ so i dont get how u have your video mode at 1024x and the game at 1024x without lag hmm.
I Will try the backticks but do u have any Idea what it could be ? We are Both running the same hardware so how can you run it at 1024x and not me?Edit: when i do backticks i get error post as flagged as spam
I Just checked dmt 16 is not there only bunch or resolution that are progressive or interlaced no dmt. So i set it to 800x600 60hz 4:3 it then booted up Valiant i there set it to everything the same as yours exept resolution i made it 800x600 instead of yours 1024x but even then its still lagging bad at the outside part of first level in Valiant Just outside in general whats going on? Kinda concerned how can yours be smooth there -
@retrofreak89 so what are you using for controls? Keyboard + mouse, wired controller, bluetooth controller, what kind of controller? I use a keyboard and mouse, i use a usb wifi dongle but did not disable the onboard wifi. I also have most of my devices on a powered usb hub. Its possible you have a power issue. Or your sd card sucks.
-
@edmaul69 i guess i can name all the specs
Im running Raspberry Pi 3 version B ,with a 8GB class 10SD Card it is a no name brand SD card but it is class 10 the brand is sosulution 8GB class 10 thats all i know..
I dont think its my powersupply i never get the "warning" and i believe its the 5v or 5.5v whats recommanded ill have to look again but it came with the rpi it self
Im using a Wired Xbox 360 controller thats for PC do it has USB,my keyboard and mouse are also plugged in but dont use it for doom but still plugged in,onboard WiFi is always running i think my bluetooth too but nothing connected to it..
I can play mame, snes, nes, psx all fine doom top but some megawads like Valiant it lags horrible outside area where sky is visible.
I did change the Zdoom resolution like you said by pressing button before game is fully loaded and changed it to very low resolution there i then changed the settings of Valiant to what you have set but still no luck it had no effect..still laggy
I rly hope we can find a solution
Its weird tho doom runs smooth as hell inside buildings but as soon as i step outside its jerky and laggy.
So i dont get it how is your gpu running better then mine? Its the same :s
Also i did Read awhile back that SDL2 makes Zdoom run better do you have that?
Im not sure what that is -
@retrofreak89 so your no name sd card really could be an issue. They arent always what they claim to be. As far as the sdl2 goes i couldnt tell you as i dont know how to check. And also test without your controller plugged in. But you have to disable your controller in the settings first.
-
@edmaul69 i Will try without controller i rly hope thats the issue also i checked the specs of my SOS solution SD card its a class 10 with 22mbs of Read and write speed so i guess thats pretty shitty? Since there are cards with 80-100mbs
But van a sd card rly make performance better from lagsto not laggy?
Whats your card ? I might buy a new one same one as yours if not too expansiveEdit: u sure a sd card can make a difference?
Im reading a site here that says rpi 3 has a max Read speed of 20mbs and my SD card IS 20mbs so if i buy a 100mbs card it wont make a difference since max of the pi is limited to 20mbs..Well that sux in reading multiple links now saying that the bus speed of rpi is limited to 20mbs so a 100mb card is not gonna do anything and in already on 20mbs.. so yeah not sure
Do u think its still the problem? -
@retrofreak89 yes it could still be. Even though its specs say that doesnt mean they are. But definitely check without a controller too. If you need to you can overclock the sd card slot. But back up your card first. With crappy cards you can have sd card corruption.
-
@edmaul69 ok i will test the without controller in a minute here..
Also did you overclocked the SD card slot by any chance?
What SD card you got?
If the controller aint it i might buy a new SD card what do you recommand me getting?
All i want to play is doom :(Edit:well i tested it without controller and it still does it so..
So i guess my only option is to get a brand SD card that is faster?
I rly hope this fixes my issues because i barly got any money lol and it would be a waste to buy one and to figure out it does the same but it is an crappy no name one so even tho its class 10 i dont think it matters.
But you honestly think getting one will solve this? -
@retrofreak89 i use a legitimate samsung 64gb sd card. All the ones on ebay are bootleg fakes. Its a class u1 (same as class 10 i believe)
-
@edmaul69 ok im gon see if the store carriers Samsung EVO plus 32gb its 20 bux its also uhs1 u think my game wont lag anymore then?
-
@retrofreak89 well i hope so. I hate thinking you have to buy it and it ends up not working. I understand exactly what its like to not have much money.
-
@edmaul69 yeah but what else could it be i mean we both got latest retropie and Raspberry pi 3 so it should perform almost the same?
But can a better SD card rly take away lag tho?
Also Maybe am i missing a graphics driver or something? Idk heh
But yours is super smooth the entire first map even outside @ 1024x resolution? I Just dont get it
U didnt overclocked anything? -
@retrofreak89 no overclocking. Smooth outside. I stopped using sandisk and kingston because i had nothing but issues with them.
-
@edmaul69 alright i hope the sd card will be my awnser but can they rly effect game play performance? I thought it was just load times that would increase not the actual fps gameplay it self?
-
@retrofreak89 it depends. Some stuff like nes loads everything into ram but it might not be the case with zdoom. If i remember to i am going to backup zdoom, update to make sure i have the absolute latest zdoom and test to see if something got messed up with a zdoom update. I am even going to start from scratch with the zdoom.ini (backing up of course) just to see if i can replicate your issue.
-
@edmaul69 I am curious to know, how is your zdoom.ini configured? I want to run mutliple wads but no matter what the different configs I set up only play one
