      Controller on Port 2 not working during emulation with SNES emulators

      I am having an issue I have seen mentioned here many times without much of a clear answer,

      Where ? I haven't seen this mentioned so frequently here. One thing that beginners are stumbling is the fact that only the P1 controller is able to run the hotkey enabled actions, but situations like P2 not working at all, that's not something that's reported.

      To start, I configure both controllers in the Emulationstation UI. I have also configured both controllers in RetroArch UI and saved the profiles. I have done that step both from the RetroPie menu and on the fly from the game with a Rom loaded.

      There's no need to re-configure the controllers in RetroArch if they've been configured in EmulationStation, the latter will take care of properly configuring the controllers for RetroArch.

      Once the game starts however, I have no luck getting inputs from the controller on Port 2

      Is this a 2 players game and you've chosen to start with 2 players ? Which game it is ? Does this happen for other systems also (PS1/NES/etc) ? Did you change the 'Device type' in the 2nd Port to something else from the RetroArch's ?

      @ringus Maybe it would be a good idea to update your question with the neccessary information needed for us (the community) to help you (according to: !! READ THIS FIRST !!), especially hardware, retropie version (and source for that|[edit:]method of installation) and in this case emulator(s) used came to mind to set a usable context)

      You should talk to the vendor of the board - maybe they have a way to check for faulty wiring ? Looking at the documentation for the board, it looks like it's using GPIONext and that should detect any GPIO inputs easily.

      Weird. I tried this a while back and it didn't work. I was using my typical Logitech F310 and a Rock Candy Wired controller. (Granted that the rock candy controller would disconnect if you sneezed on it.) They didn't work together.

      Try to test the encoder using jstest - (see here) - to check if the joystick and buttons produce correct results.

      Is there a schematic you've followed to wire the joystick and buttons to make sure they're correctly wired ? Or does the encoder has labels for each connections indicating the correct wiring ?

      You could just make a custom collection and then just add 2 player games to it. I did this to create a separate list of vertical screen arcade games from horizontal ones.

      @dennis Thanks for asking, answers were really helpful to me.
      I have the same Juyao Dual Arcade Joystick and I faced the same issue that you had.

      My dual controller was recognized as one controller so I wasn't able to configure them separately.

      My solution was this:

      cd /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads cp Xin-Mo Xin-Mo Dual Arcade.cfg D_R_M JUYAO Dual Arcade.cfg

      then edited D_R_M JUYAO Dual Arcade.cfg
      replacing vendor and product_id

      the final file should look similar to this:

      input_device = "D_R_M JUYAO Dual Arcade" input_driver = "udev" input_vendor_id = "0314" input_product_id = "0328" input_up_axis = "-1" input_down_axis = "+1" input_left_axis = "-0" input_right_axis = "+0" input_select_btn = "7" input_start_btn = "12" input_a_btn = "0" input_b_btn = "3" input_x_btn = "5" input_y_btn = "2" input_l_btn = "1" input_r_btn = "4" input_l2_btn = "9" input_r2_btn = "8" input_l_x_plus_axis = "+0" input_l_x_minus_axis = "-0" input_l_y_plus_axis = "+1" input_l_y_minus_axis = "-1"

      After doing that, I was able to configure them separately on retroarch.

      @alexp You can avoid all this by flashing the ipac2 to gamepad enabled firmware 1.39 and setting the buttons as Gamepad buttons. Both sides work and it is 1000x easier. ES configures everything easily, no extra cfgs needed.

      Use this guide, but use the ipac2 instead of the miniipac.

      @lurker said in Games with 2P ROM versions:

      I am developing a theory that Player 3 has the best characters;
      Ralph the Wolf (Rampage)
      Bart (the Simpsons)
      Donatello ( TMNT) and TMNTII

      Ha! I really think you're on to something there. For 'Rampage', I play Ralph most of the time myself. It's a shame he was always the one snubbed when they needed to cut a character for the home ports. Of course the Lynx version actually threw us a curve ball by including a fourth character, Larry the rat. I've experimented with just about all the ports, looking for a good alternative that allows character selection and while several of them are very impressive on a technical level, especially on the Lynx, Master System and Atari 2600, nothing beats the arcade original.

      @rulmismo Yeah, the screw terminals hanging out from the wall plug have gaps around them, open/electrified screws exposed so someone with a tool in hand might be able to electrocute themselves.

      One step better would be to use an extension cord, keeping the female end. Plug your DC adapter into it instead of the screw terminals, then use the length of cord to replace your black and blue wires, cutting the extension cord when it reaches your plug on the right side and re-solder. At least this would put the dangerous part only on the right side which you could protect again with heat shrink like you have now, and you could even glue a little a thin box around it so it can't accidentally get pulled and touched.

      That's kinda what I did with my cabinet. I glued some thin wood around the point where the AC comes into my cabinet and made a little box around it. My internal high-voltage power is just the end of an extension cord inside my cabinet.

      @tonythetiger not everyone knows the answer to everything and a lot of times people dont provide enough info for anyone to help. All help here is done in peoples free time and with how many posts get posted in a day some posts can get lost at the bottom of the pile. It would be cool if you posted your solution to be able to help others who have this same problem.

      This seems the most similar to my issue I've found. What is that editor you are using for the .cfg file? Also, this wouldn't happen to be with DragonRise controllers would it?
