I found this Howto about mounting a smartphone via mtp and jmtpfs in the directory tree of a Debian-based Linux system (such as Retropie).

      https://www.khalidalnajjar.com/connect-android-nougat-to-linux-using-usb/

It looks quite comprehensive and step-by-step to me. I can't say more about it, however, since I don't have a smartphone. :)

I know more than 2 years passed, but I wanted my phone to config retropie without using a Keyboard and tested your app. From your code on Github there are 2 problems in the main .py file.
1 - You're importing 2 times subprocess, which is redundant, no big problem whatsoever here
2- There's a Syntax error on line 114 that prevented the service to start on my PI3. There aren't () both at start and end from the print command.
So I changed it, copied the file to /usr/bin/ and it worked like a charm.

It can work only, if the phone or tablet have HDMI-in port, which as I know almost none support this. The Android phones/tablets supporting HDMI is mostly output only.

retropie doesn't run on android. you probably want the retroarch/libretro forums: forums.libretro.com

still, it should be written on the bottom of the UI.

@herb_fargus said in Which retro gaming devices is more powerful?:

@JohnW4086 really? A $35 dollar computer vs $170 tablet... Take a guess at which one runs better

We all know the answer to that, the Raspberry of course!

@JohnW4086 No doubt the RPi is better for console emulator experience. You connect it to your TV, connect a 8bitdo controller and there you go. I dont know but to me it would be pretty weird to use the touchscreen of a tablet as a controller since you cannot "feel" the buttons you're pushing.

I have a similar controller (mine is red and black). I wouldn't say it is automatic compatible. I configured for retropie months (a year?) ago, and as I remember I had to restart the bluetooth registering procedure several times until the controller was recognized by the Pi3.
After that it was OK for me. Well, I had some issues with vice (C64), but when I figured it out and fixed it (my mistake) I could - and I'm still able with the latest Pi - play with my C64 games.
      Emulationstation menu is also ok.
      And the twist:
a couple of days ago I wanted to try out some other games (PSX, and gamesandwatch) and it seems that there are some mapping issues. I can't find the reason, I guess it is just again some configuration glitch... Still investigating.

@obsidianspider I have read up on typical RPi3 BT speeds and they shape up to be maximum 256kb/s

Meaning that the BT Display would be 15551.5625 the maximum capability at best..... The compression would need to be 20,000x in under 10 milliseconds. That kind of compression would take hours to years for a Pi, and the entire screen would be an artifact.

@obsidianspider Good to know. That's the conclusion I came to. I made my backup this morning and installed a driver for a highly rated (and free) app called Unified Remote. Need to experiment with it when I have time, but it did connect briefly. Seemed to be a wifi connection issue of some kind. Will post my results here if I can get it working properly.

I just want to be able to pick up the phone and type "esc" when and if necessary, that sort of thing. Unified Remote app provides a full keyboard with command keys, arrows, etc on the phone.

@Dominus no. there are workarounds and hacks but short of a lot of coding brilliance you can't do it.

using a vnc client will work in an x environment, but emulationstation and retropie run direct on the framebuffer so that method will not work.

Anybody that is having any issues with the web failed in all versions i can help go into settings on the kodi open network setting once you open the network setting on the kodi your going to scroll down to web server your going to type into this section 8080 what this does stop the errors from occurring make sure this section is not enabled change the web interface to hex this will make the streaming process run better and alot faster on any computer if you have the chrome addon you can use that too but hex is the best server which run better for apple computers HP or acer or Asus the performance runs way better with ASUS so Again
Settings> Network>web server> disable and Change 80 to 8080 Change the web interface to HEX

@vondes I don't see why any screen casting software wouldn't work on games you play natively on your phone.
