When I run the scripts I have to restart EmulationStation for the sound output changes to take effect

I guess that for EmulationStation to pick up the changes you need to modify the audio settings for the sound to be re-initialized, but for emulators it shouldn't be a problem.

@levitatingGuru Hey, I am wondering how you went about installing the kms driver? I am trying to also resolve the screen tearing but can't figure it our for the life of me. I have adapted the config.txt but I have read I have to install the KMS kernel 5.4 or something like that? is that correct?

@TheAutisticGamer said in Mono Audio for HDMI?:

what i mean is... If I set both left and right to go off with the same sounds. Will it cause problems with reverb? IDK I'm just curious

      I don't think so.

EDIT: Just found an intireley different problem that doesnt have to with audio but an emulator. Should I post it here or create a new thread?

If it's not related to the audio configuration for stereo to mono conversion, then please open a separate topic.

@dookieshooter I don't have a lot of programming/code experience to help people here, but I do have a fair amount of audio expertise and this is a fairly simple issue to solve. It's called an "audio ground loop" and it's because the audio signal isn't grounded to the same ground as the rest of your components. Perhaps it's plugged into a different outlet or surge protector. The reason your second amp worked is because it probably has a ground loop filter built-in and the first one didn't. The easiest and cheapest way to minimize or get rid of the hum is to buy a Pyle PHE300 or similar device that (depending on the model) either connects to the signal that's going to the speakers or to the audio OUT from the Pi. It intercepts the signal and 'cleans' the hum from it by grounding the signal again.

I thought that once paired via Bluetooth, the speaker would re-pair when started with the system. How did you pair the speakers with RetroPie ?

Can you run, from a terminal, the following commands:

      aplay -l aplay -L

and post the output ? The error in EmulationStation logs indicated the audio settings for the volume control are not correct. Do you have sound during gameplay, when running the emulators ?

is there any alsa applet for panel?

      Yes, I think it's the lxplug-volume package.

audio config always says enable pulseaudio

Are you using the latest RetroPie-Setup version ? Did you run an update after installing from the RetroPie image ?

@iss05e said in Amiberry - no sound through headphone jack:

The previous version of Amiberry inherited the Audio options set in RetroPie. I guess Amiberry v5.3 no longer does this.

It didn't, it was just a concidence that it worked. It probably just used the 'default' (which is set via the RetroPie audio settings).
