Press "OK" and type reboot when the command line opens at the bottom. Worked for me.

      reset to default settings

If you have reset RetroArch to default settings in the RGUI and then saved the config you have probably set non ideal defaults. Our defaults are not the same as the RetroArch defaults. You should remove /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg and reinstall retroarch from "Manage Packages/Core Packages"

@androidonpi I checked everything before screen savers and stuff like that all are off, sometimes when i have chromium open ublock crashes sometimes from what i saw before it happens.

When i log back in everything is closed. Could it be a pi 4 going bad at all, thats what has me worried a little.

@sleve_mcdichael I'm not selling anything, it's your decision to use it or not. I'm not benefited in any way.
I'm just talking about my personal experience with it. And that, once everything is set up, it stops being a problem.

@illmaticxking said in GLideN64 crashing back to EmulationStation for every n64 rom:

One other question that I've also searched but am not sure how to resolve. In non-Libretro cores, my hotkeys on my controller and keyboard do not work for opening the quick menu to adjust video, configs, etc.

That's because the Hotkey Enable button/functionality is specific to RetroArch/libretro. For each standalone emulator, you'll have to check what options for input are available and how/if they can be adapted to a 'hotkey' schema.

If you have a Linux system, yes. Windows cannot read the SDcard's contents. You may take a backup as an .img (with Win32DiskImager, as mentioned in the docs) and try to open it with 7Zip.

@superfella said in So this clearly isn't good:

I still seem to have access to the files on the card, so what do I need to back up before I install a new image?

If it's only the boot partition, that won't help.

(People always say "back up your data" as if that's any sort of help. What does it actually MEAN? Will the contents of the home>pi>RetroPie>roms and opt>retropie>configs folders be enough to basically get me back to where I was?)

Maybe it's not related to RetroPie and I should open an issue at Libretro's forums?

@dankcushions thank you for your suggestions and you're right. I've tried to change the gpu_mem but it still crash, just after a different number of exiting game.

So if there's no solution I tried a workaround, hope this could be useful to someone else. Not using Omxplayer I had that problem with some video preview that got sound but not video. As I told you before I noticed the problem was the codec profile. The lucky thing is that on W10 the thumbnails of videos (associated to VLC program) that have this issue show the VLC icon instead of the screenshot preview of the video so they were easily recognizable. I used a program (WinXHDVideoConverterDeluxe) to convert manually those videos (they were more than one thousand but the program runs fast e you can upload and launch them all togheter and just wait, the only boring thing was to select them all manually). I replaced the codec profile corrected videos and everything works fine. I made two tests of almost 4 hours and exactly 250 exiting game (but who counts, I'm going crazy, I know) each one and the issue didn't occurred.

The only thing that I noticed is that shutting down the system it took about 20 seconds of black screen before starting the power off process, technically why? Did I stress to much the system? And what do you thing, should I expect another crash somehow or maybe I'm safe?

      Thank you so much.

      @twalls

      Hello....
Your thread is probably one of the closest that I can find online for my issue. Any help would be great...

I've built 20 or so arcade 1ups with raspberry pi 3b+ and ran into this problem on the latest NBA Jam build with 4 players. Probably 50% of the time the arcade boots I get a message directly after the emulators load (right when it says done) that emulation station crashed. Talks about changing the theme and if it's the first time loading retropie, etc. Screenshot_20210917-210224_Photos.jpg

I use the same image for every one of my arcades, 4 player and 2 player and have never ran into this problem. I've changed out everything....usb cables, encoders, raspberry pi, surge protector, tried a different outlet, changed the theme, etc. Nothing helps. Sometimes it boots normal and perfectly, but I'd say half the time I get the crashed message. I've tried doing one encoder/joystick at a time and it works fine...all the way up to 3 encoders/joysticks, but when 4 are connected that's when it randomly does it. I've noticed that after I turn on and one of the encoders flashes (red light) instead of staying on is when this happens. And it's random each time of which encoder flashes. Like I've said though, I changed out all the encoders, cables, pi, surge protector. I'm at a loss here and is driving me crazy. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Well, It turns out that my sound problem was probably due to the display refresh rate not being on sync.

After many reinstalls (both OS and Retropie) I was able to make sense of all this and I now can enjoy Retropie again on my old laptop with Lubuntu 20.04.

Thank you mitu for your time, this is really appreciated.

Just wondering if you are got anywhere with this. I'm having the same issue with an AMD RX580 I just got.
