      Yes, it might be possible. You'll need to modify the autostart script in /opt/retropie/configs/all/autostart.sh and start either Emulationstation or the desktop - depending on your current TV connection.
      There's a way to detect which output is connected (see this topic), so you can use something like this:

      if (/usr/bin/tvservice -s | /bin/egrep 'HDMI|DVI') ; then # Start the desktop xinit else # Start Emulationstation emulationstation fi

      Adding this line to Mednafen VB.cfg:

      video_refresh_rate = “50.0”

      Fixes the timing issue, hope this post helps anyone with the same issue. Runs great now!

      ( btw, definitely lower the audio_out_rate to around 33200 or something like that, and sample fidelity to lower and add some audio time skew, no framedrops or sound skips now that I could notice even when playing in 3d )

      @M3th0D I was getting 15khz out of HDMI like you but i went into a hdmi to component converter, using retropie.. I came a cross this post when i was trying to work things out, and seen the runcommand , I used it but in a different way,,I got emulation station running in 480i, and retroarch running in 1600x240.. and it switches back to 480i when exiting games.

      https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/22467/hdmi-to-component-crt-help-runcommand/10

      just wanted to pass on the info.

      @future-child Thank you. Some of the links are for eMac, which I didn’t even know existed. Not as cool looking as the G3 iMac but fairly solid design as well. I found the last link myself as well and that one made me hesitate with even starting to plan this project as it seemed like a huge pain and was not resolved in that thread.

      @mitu jajaja!! Yeah, between a messed up menu and non centered menu I prefer the not centered one that is redeable. Thanks.

      I will edit the autostart file and see what happens when I connect it back to an HD screen (so I can prevent any surprises if I ever take the Pi to a friends house)

      any easy guides on how to do this? Keep in mind I have only had a raspi for about 24 hours, with 20 of them being me fighting it.

      You really should read on about the Raspberry Pi and RetroPie in general before trying to customize your installation. Themes can be installed from the RetroPie setup script - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Themes/.

      The SNES mini theme seems to support a few 4:3 resolutions, look in the config.xml file inside the theme folder.

      @youxia that's giving a more accurate and sharp image but frequently changing back to HDMI isn't very convenient even by using a tvservice startup script. Also setting things up for different arcade games is a pain. Quite ideal for setups permanently hooked on a CRT though.

      @athman8 280p is supported via HDMI but you'll need to find an adapter that will give out the same resolution and also a CRT monitor that accepts 240 lines. The easy way to get 240p out of the Pi is via composite on a CRT TV by setting sdtv_mode to either 16 or 18 (NTSC or PAL).

      It might be related to Debian Stretch, if the RetroPie image hasn't been correctly updated to Debian Stretch. I had this issue running OSMC Stretch with RetroSMC script. It used to work until Debian Stretch came out then it stuttered and was totally unplayable. Everything stuttered and slowed down drastically

      Try this, it will update ALL your RetroPie cores and emulators to the latest Debian Stretch code. It compiles EVERYTHING from the source, which WILL take some considerable time. Leave it running overnight to compile and update ALL the code to the latest builds

      https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Updating-RetroPie/

      Choose the following option, and be very patient. It WILL take hours and hours. Hence running overnight

      Update All Installed Packages : This will update the RetroPie-Setup script and all installed packages

      3rd party images are installed in a quick fashion with very little aftermarket support. You might be even better, as suggested, downloading a proper image and starting from scratch. At least then you know it WILL work correctly

      @capeman Yeah, cool project! Some day I'd like to do a CRT build.

      @lilbud check out online reviews of the TS100. Might be just the ticket for a slightly smaller budget iron. It is the one I have my eye on ATM.

      Ok, so after I wanted play some games now, I realized the bottom part of the lr-snes9x games are always black. I can't say how many rows, but maybe 10th. The other sides are all on the edge of screen and Emulation Station is shawn correct, lr-nestopia too. Is there a setting I miss? The strange thing is, in RetroArch menu the whole screen is used. The emulator makes the image of game smaller and shows a black bottom border only.

      EDIT: Ok so, after quick testing, it happens also in PC Engine, but not the other emulators.

      @Nossral

      I would go with RetroTINK Ultimate and a VGA to Scart cable with two external Audio connections.

      To get better audio instead of using the built-in 3.5mm audio jack a would recommend a usb soundcard.
