@amtimes546 RetroPie doesn't develop daphne neither any other emulator, meaning your triple-post suggesting daphne's future developments is entirely meaningless.

Follow-up: I did some more digging and read somewhere on the xpadneo github that they have a hypseus module in the code. I never thought to try hypseus, I guess I had it stuck in my mind that Daphne was "the" laserdisc emulator. I installed hypseus and it works with the Xbone controller. I only had to configure the select and start buttons. The exit as configured in ES (start + select) works as well. In Daphne the start+select to exit didn't work and I had to configure another button.

Big props to @DirtBagXon, I found your github and followed the instructions: https://github.com/DirtBagXon/hypseus-singe. Thank you thank you thank you.

I hope this helps anyone else stumbling into this issue. I like my xbone controllers and am trying to get away from Xbox 360 controllers + dongle.

TLDR: Xbox One controllers will not work with Daphne. Use hypseus.

@ln_rc said in Daphne - Removing Fullscreen Parameters to Avoid Errors:

@DirtBagXon @johnodon Thank you for the information! I added back the full screen, it definity the $params and not the -fullscreen. This is the commands file that I used based on a tutorial on this webpage:

      -nocrc -noissues -noserversend -latency 950 -x 640 -y 480 -bank 1 00110111 -bank 0 10011000

Is there a better version of a general .commands file to use?

I'll take a look at the hypseus emulator as well. The Daphne emulator has been working pretty well for me, but it doesn't hurt to see all the options.

There isn't really a one size fits all .commands file, as these files are game specific. i.e. each game has a different version in its own folder:

      https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Daphne/#command-parametres

Alter arguments and get it to do what you want it to do. If you are including -bank switches then you need to start reading, and understanding, the arcade dip switch setting configurations. These are at the more complex end of config.

Dip switches are documented on the excellent DLP site: http://www.dragons-lair-project.com/tech/
General options for Daphne are documented here: http://www.daphne-emu.com/mediawiki/index.php/CmdLine
Hypseus has a few more: https://github.com/DirtBagXon/hypseus-singe#extended-arguments-and-keys

Feeling overwhelmed :) Daphne is notoriously tricky to configure, so just spend some time with it.

Remember, you don't have to include any options. Defaults (empty .commands file) work fine most of the time.

If you did remove $params as the last argument from the daphne.sh script, you should add it back and fix the commands files. This option allows you to customise all games individually.

Note: These same arguments in $params (i.e. <game>.commands files) are also used by the hypseus.sh script, so any issues you address in Daphne will be ported to Hypseus Singe automatically.

There are some options that are now deprecated in Hypseus, -nohwaccel being one. These don't work well in the port to SDL2, especially on the Pi.

@saucerman My pleasure. To mark this thread as solved, you could add a [Solved] in front of the title of your first post. To edit the post, click on the little three dots on the left and choose "Edit".

This is not required (in fact, alas, almost nobody does it), but just a common hint for potential helpers to know that their help isn't needed here anymore, since the forum software itself has no such feature. 😉

So I found a solution that I think works (at least for me.) I changed the entire configs.hdmi>daphne folder permissions to 555 and when I add a new controller, I get this error:

      daphne input.jpg

However it does NOT overwrite my current dapinput.ini file. I can't see anything else in that directory that it would need to write to anyway.

I tested all 17 Daphne games and they all worked and they all kept my controller configs even after configuring a few new controllers so I think this is at least a fix for my situation.

Thanks for the input everyone! It was helpful to put me on the right path!

This is not a problem. Usually there should also be a framefile, which is basically a textfile that references all the other movie clips iirc. Just try it.

on the details, because executing it all seems a lot harder than it should be. :)
What numbers do you have your joystick set to? Maybe thos

The joystick numbers can be completely ignored unless you want buttons to move you in directions.

The code will pick up hats(digital) or analogue automatically. The problem with the original code is it only works with digital hats and the buttons are assigned to teh default gpx as well so that can causde issues. The patch i made for this fixes that all that up.

@mediamogul said in Daphne Control Help:

The most unusual time I've ever played the game was on a Tandy computer back in the day.

That's impressive to get through with one player. I was never quite that good but the enjoyment was off the hook. You'll enjoy the updated graphics.

That was my first computer I actually purchased fully out of my own pocket. Tandy 1000 HX with dual 3.5 floppies that held a whopping 720KB per floppy. It had 256KB of RAM expanded to 640KB. It seems weird that those old systems worked in less than 1MB of RAM. No hard drive.

We also would type in old BASIC programs into a VIC-20 similar to Zork but smaller. Back then it was still fun even knowing every possible outcome to every decision.

I have no idea how we survived the incredibly long load times on the C64. I do remember some of the games like Karateka taking 20 to 30 minutes to load.

Some say Moore's Law is coming to a close well at least for silicon. I suppose that's ok we'll just use our computers longer or prices won't drop as quickly or who knows really. I don't know if it's Intel or consumers driving the market to buy bigger and better every few years or companies like Apple that make it a yearly party to repurchase everything. It hardly seems a necessity nowadays but technology is interesting none the less!
