can i run actual arcade controls and interface with retropie?

If you really want to use an existing cabinet, there are are some adapters for Jamma controls to a Pi which can help.

If you just want to have an arcade control panel, you can build one from an USB encoder or an Ultimarc board and connect it to a PC/PI via USB. Or use one of the pre-made arcade stick boards like 8bitdo arcade stick, Madcatz, Hori, etc.

@dankcushions Thank you very much for your help.

I would appreciate if you have an idea how to map the coins button for the NeoGeo or the MAME emulator. because that controller I posted the picture, doesn't look like an NES controller. so a bit hard to map.

sorry if I am very dumb in this geek world. I am just trying to make it work for my kid.

i'm not sure if it helps but there's other examples of other controller types here: https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/RetroArch-Configuration#default-core-controls-for-all-emulators

@RoswellWitness I believe what lordward1234 did was navigate to the folder /opt/retropie/configs/mame-libretro/ and just delete the file retroarch.cfg. I would ssh into the pi, navigate to the file location and delete it.

@AlexMurphy I have pressed TAB, I am in the menu, I have selected Input This Game
It does not recognize my arcade joystick d-pad which has been configured through Emulation Station prior to all of this.
