@chubsta said in ZX Spectrum keyboard - Pi400 mapping:

Even just a printout which shows which keys on the Pi relate to which keys on the Spectrum would be a nice start as I currently struggling to marry up the keys on the Pi with what I would like to achieve on the 'Spectrum'.

Assuming you're using the fuse core, I don't think the mapping is that complicated. The core docs show the keyboard is sent as is, but I assume this applies to the core when game focus mode is enabled in RetroArch. Unfortunately, the PI400's keyboard doesn't include the 'Scroll Lock' key which is used by RetroArch to toggle 'game focus mode', so you'll have to rebind it to another key.

Alternatively, you can give Zesarux a try and see how it fits with the Pi400.

      @duglor

Strange key, but F7 is the key for jumping.
You can assign it in the retroarch-gui -> controls -> port 1 controls -> retro keyboard -> (assign, for example, "s" to "keyboard F7" -> go back 1 step and you should be able to save a game-specific remap file.
      This is save in :
      /opt/retropie/configs/pc88/QUASI88
and loaded next time you start the game again.

Worked like a charm. F7 eh? I swore i tried every key, perhaps in the speed in which i did it with , i didn't notice.lol. Thanks VERY VERY much!

@AkatoshTheGreat also it is fixable in mame via mames menus, but if you want to add other emulators, you will have issues as they expect a different device for each player. Unless you plan only using 1 player.

Keyboard not working in lr-dosbox-pure after latest 1.9.4 RA update

@mitu Everything that is mapped to my controller works if Game Focus is turned off. Problem is now with 1.9.4. the keyboard doesn't work until Game Focus is turned on. Once Game Focus is on, I loose all the mappings, I can't even open the Retroarch menu. What was the need for the change. Before this version, I never saw this happen.

It doesn't effect any games that do not use a keyboard until you get to Amiga, A800, AtariST and DOSbox-pure.

I don't know a way around this without plugging in a true USB keyboard that has a scroll-lock key. My BT unit doesn't have one. I opened the retroarch.cfg and tried to remap the Game Focus key to another key, but it keeps automatically reverting back to scroll-lock as the entry.

I've deleted Retroarch and reloaded it by source thinking maybe some file is still hanging around from a previous build, but it didn't change anything.

I'm not sure what else to do with this other than buy a new, portable BT keyboard that has a scroll-lock key on it.

Update....nevermind... I found this on reddit and see there is a way to reassign the on/off toggle. I set mine to page-up key. All good.

      https://www.reddit.com/r/RetroArch/comments/kv06im/psa_just_a_reminder_that_toggling_game_focus/

Works fine. Now I can toggle it on and off and use both the hotkeys and keyboard as needed. Works great.

      Thanks again.

@folly Thinking about it, is it possible it might work on other cores? Is it a functionality all the lr cores share?

@tpr Please do not post a support request without first reading and following the advice in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first

Please start a new topic providing details of set up and which emulator you are using - there are multiple scummvm packages in RetroPie.

@garfee If you are using lr-fuse, then it is possible to map key presses to a joypad in the RGUI. More info at: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/ZX-Spectrum/#joypad-to-keyboard-mapping

If I do sudo apt-get update and then sudo apt-get upgrade it also locks up doing the upgrade. But I was able to both of these in Raspbian and Raspbian lite.
