Delete all *.hi and *.nv-files in the ~/hi and ~/nvram folders of your mame4all-directory.

If you meant the default scores which are given by the developers of the arcade-machines: you cannot reset them, they are hardcoded.

@superlabrat The ROMs are not compatible with the emulators you installed. Arcade emulation is a bit more finicky - if you're just beginning start by reading the Arcade Quick start and then find a proper ROmset for the emulator you want to use.

      Hi all,

I used mame4all because I was doingt it wrong.

After reading the instructions on the link mediamogul post I moved to lr-mame2003 wich seems to work well for the 3-4 games I have played.

I just got two arcade joysticks form amazon and will mount tomorrow. Lets see how it works....

ahhhh I forgot to comment, I own Rapsberry 3...

      Regards and have fun

This is an old question but an answer is necessary!

The support for M.A.M.E.'s artwork using external zipped archive (containing .art and .png files, archive placed in the artwork directory) is present from 0.61 to 0.106 versions. After 0.106 version the .art file has been subsitutedd by .lay xml file.

In versions previous than 0.61 the artwork is supported at driver level, so it is hardcoded.

mame4all is a version based on 0.37b5 so it will never works

      @caver01 Thanks for responding!

caver01 "It does beg the question, so I will write it before someone else does: why not consider the libretro version of mame4all for those titles that require the bezel, since most of the work has been done for you?"

My reasons for staying with mame4all are:

I have a known good working set for mame4all The set works great on a non-OC'ed RaspberryPi 3 I haven't managed to get any of the libretro settings to correspond to my default old iPac2. A major issue for me. I don't like to have to spend hours re-configuring if I can help it. I like majority of the roms on my arcade cab to be listed under one menu. I know that you can use the arcade folder but lets face it re-configuring 800+ roms one at a time to work with the best emulator is a pain when mame4all just works.

That is how my mind deals with it. I would love to use the Libretro set but I haven't been able to get the key mappings right.

I was hoping that there would be a default bezel that mame4all could see and know to auto use it but I didd't think that there would be something so simple.

      Thanks again!

@lordluca said in Mame - missing game files only on pi?:

Why does some games don't work on Mame on Pi while working fine on Mame on PC?

Because there are many versions of mame. Each version of mame requires a very specific set of roms to function. Rom files are not universally compatible.

      Read this:

@WilsonB Yeah, it's a bad post, makes you look seriously lazy. You need to read the guide. MAME roms are not universal. More importantly though https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first. Angry with my response? don't be. Be angry with yourself. People on this forum spend countless hours repeating the same old thing over and over and over and over and over and over because people do not read the guide. For example, I wrote this. I spent time doing it to prevent this question. It complements the full guide. Have you read it? Have you read this? I say No. No. No. No. No you have not.

The arcade emulators i have are Arcade,FBA, MAME-Libretro and Mame4All.

Arcade is not an emulator, it's a folder. You have to read the guides or you will become very frustrated over time, especially with MAME.

@rbaker no offence to OP but I'd be willing to bet that most people who are running Windows 10 iot on the pi would probably know the simple steps of recreating a folder if the got to the point of getting retropie functioning on iot ;)

@derebo You can enter the menu on a keyboard initially, and then under Input (general) the first item is Config Menu which can be changed to a joypad button

Note that lr-mame2003 is a better mame emulator for the rpi3 though (Supports more games) - along with lr-fbalpha

@Obmug If using a rpi3, you will do better to use lr-mame2003 as it's the most developed and supports more games.

@suprjami thanks. yeah, since there's no stipulation of overclocks in the compatibility list, i think they really need a separate column for pi zero.

@dankcushions Hey there. I was playing with RetroPie and MAME last night. I noticed that in one version of MAME I think MAME 2003 R-Type Leo has no audio. When I loaded it from the mame4all version I had audio.

This is the kind of thing that requires me to keep both MAMEs active so that I can get working versions of all my roms.

      Thanks,
      BC

works fine for me in mame2003.

The config file is not manually editable - it is a binary config. You will have to find a way to connect both your keyboard and joystick together (eg a usb hub). If you don't own one then they are useful things - so it is worth getting one.

      Thanks everyone!

I found the solution for my setup. In short, the solution was to use the audio on my TV rather than my home theater system.

My Setup My setup is a small home theater, not a dedicated display for retro awesomeness... Raspberry Pi 3 HDMI output to TV TV volume all the way down Optical S/PDIF out to Bose speaker system

As it turns out, this is okay for some MAME games, not frogger or most anything that needs samples. It sounds like some of the audio durations are too short to come through the system. Perhaps it needs to un-mute the Bose amplifier and fade in, but by then it's too late to hear anything more than a slight pop.

Solution Raspberry Pi 3 HDMI output to TV Use TV volume (don't route audio through home theater, it can be plugged in but not used)

I put all of the config files back to default, I think..., and all of my mame and nes games seem to sound good with some quick testing.

All is well in retro land. I hope this helps someone else!
