Unfortunately I don't know what is checksum so I don't know how to check it?

A checksum is unique number/string for a file that's calculated based on the file's contents. This is a method to ensure you have the a correct file, regardless of filename.

Use 7zip to get a CRC/SHA checksum of the file - https://www.blogsolute.com/7-less-known-features-of-7zip/26665/. Compare it to the official SMB ROM checksum from Tosec/No-Intro - if it's not a match, you have a hacked/modified ROM file and that's the reason the emulators behave differently.

@folly Thanks for chiming in, I'll look into that!

Yeah from what I've seen so far, a lot of the menus still have enough English to be playable, with the worst of it generally being not being able to read/understand the characters for games where you'd have to make up a name for yourself. With an RPG like Esper Dream however, the language barrier was definitely going to be an issue (but fortunately a translated ROM exists). Just don't want to have it inconvenience me later on.

Anyway, hopefully I can get someone who can answer some of these other questions...!!

Seems he is testing with some new features and changes, but first completed the base version of the game. Now, he can experiment and edit on top of that version. Makes completely sense now. But where a shadow is, there is a source of light too. That means, we can hope for a future release. Man, I didn't know how cool the romhack scene is.

the post above has some merit..

"... I immediately clicked "verify only" and got the error "Verification failed at sector: 8192".
      Then I tried the following:
READ the contents of the SD card back to a file TEST.IMG.
WRITE the file TEST.IMG back to the SD card.
      Run "verify only".
This time, the verify succeeded without any errors."

I performed the same steps and got the same outcome.
It took 3-4x as long this time to read, write, verify the image.
Some of the NES Roms now play, still working on it
Thanks again for everyones help :)

I noticed the same thing when Sbake Man launch those little snakes in Mega Man 3. This is the same on the original hardware.

Everyone has his thing and taste.

I collected 8-Track tapes in the nineties as a novelty and that has got to be hands-down the worst audio duplication and distribution format of all time, so I can indeed relate to inexplicable nostalgia.

@loop315 Which image are you using? What hardware are you on? Please read this as agreed on signing up to the forums https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first and give us some more info.

From your post, I can kind of deduce that as you got this Retropie "kit" for Christmas, that it was purchased with the SD card pre-loaded. That type of image is not something that the devs here will support and you'd be better downloading the official image and following the initial setup guide on the wiki.

Ok have the audio working now. Last issue I have is that my usb Retro NES remote is all messed up. ie, b and a buttons are switched, select is starts. This causes issues when I cannot hold select and start to exit game. The remote works fine in other rom games except the NES. I have tried setting up several time in the input game pad set up and all worked fine on that
