I have done exactly that myself because for some reason I couldn't get retropie to run on top the Lite OS. Long story short, I like it. You can set boot order to run Retropie first and you got a desktop environment as a bonus when you exit RP. I have yet to find any disadvantages to that... Space efficiency maybe, if you have a smaller SD card?

@keeks said in pi4 and memory:

@busywait I should have searched for RAM rather than Memory :)

      :)

I run a Pi4 4GB behind my TV set. Sometimes I start the Pi Desktop and more RAM might help in that situation. (Browser with too many tabs, ... ?) But if you're sticking to just game emulation, sounds like you can save a little money \o/

Spending the saved cash on a good heatsink case (or case heatsink) would be sensible to stop the Pi getting too hot, and allowing more aggressive overclocking.

New cable has made no difference unfortunately. Another oddity is that when I scroll left or right through the emulators (and the transition style is set to 'fade') the red pixels all disappear and only reappear when I stop scrolling.

It's not the biggest issue, just would like to understand what's causing it so I can learn a bit more about it.

@BuZz I Flashed another SD card that i had when i first got my switch, I mounted the image on the "new" sd card with the latest image 4.6 of retro pie and i do have the ability to use controls, so now all i have to do is import files from the other card.

@retroven As recommended have a look at the docs, but here is a couple of quick answers

Most popular emulators are already installed and will show up automatically when you add roms. Optional emulators can be installed from retropie-setup if needed but for that you will need the docs Adding artwork is easiest using a scraper such as skyscraper https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Scraper/#lars-muldjords-skyscraper Not sure but probably. I haven't updated on my pi as it is all set up and working great

@chicuelo i see thank you very much ill see if i cant do that on Monday anything else I can do in the mean time and do you mind if i ask you nice guys a few more questions because there are some other things I'm working on for my end of the project mainly two things: 1. I wish to use a separate background image for the retro-pie options but when I add a background image tag extra= "true" included to the theme.xml in the retro-pie sub folder it seems to break it (it being the entire theme) and I can't seem to figure out the issue 2. I've heard a lot of conflicting documentation about the subject of the carousel being theme able everything from it only being theme-able specifically on retropie to it requiring a plugin to it being hard coded and not being theme able at all I merely wish to remove the grey carousel bar and include the logo svg any recent relevant documentation on this would be appreciated thanks a lot everyone!

@LazyLizard This seems to be a great bash guide with cool tips and tricks:

And if you have a specific question about bash, this is a really good resource to look at (even before searching in google):

Ok have the audio working now. Last issue I have is that my usb Retro NES remote is all messed up. ie, b and a buttons are switched, select is starts. This causes issues when I cannot hold select and start to exit game. The remote works fine in other rom games except the NES. I have tried setting up several time in the input game pad set up and all worked fine on that
