      My question is, Can a Retropie 3B+ run N64 games stably

      Not really. Some N64 titles don't run well (or at all), even on a Pi4.

      @CoffeeOwl88 I know this is an old post, but I was also having the same issue.

      Changing the over_voltage to 2 is what solved it for me.

      If I'm not mistaked, the Pi Zero W is already clocked at 1Ghz, so your overclock will not considerably improve the system's performance.
      For GBA, use lr-gpsp or gpsp as emulators, for SNES, use pisnes as emulator - this should get perform better on the Pi Zero W.

      @webbsmurfen On the PI4, the GPU core freq is 500, not 700. You're confusing it with other value. See https://www.raspberrypi.com/documentation/computers/config_txt.html#overclocking

      @bilu just to say thanks. To date, I've been underwhelmed by the PI4 performance since I swapped from my pi3.

      I've been struggling with all kinds of screen tearing issues, despite overclocking to 2.1ghz.

      I borrowed this configuration and everything is now running buttery smooth.

      Thanks for sharing.

      Can you post the info requested here? It will help to troubleshoot your issue. https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first

      Also may want to take a look at this post. Specifically the pi 4 section.

      Thanks for the fps check.
      For the sound, It depends, for some 2D games, the sound is not that bad (not far from a good experience).
      In the Hash file , located in the BIOS/mame/hash folder , they commented slightly on the playability.
      Some games are not playables even on both emulators.
      I'm running Zool 2 or Bubsy at 49 FPS with Lr-Mess and 33 FPS with Lr- virtualjaguar (Big difference)

      @Brunnis I ended up just reflashing with the stable release, and loading old saves. Now I'm having an issue with one game(Azure Dreams) on psx, where when I goto the save card selection screen it and choose slot 1 it hangs. The spinning save card graphic plays, but it accepts no input other than opening the retroArch gui, or hard stopping the game. I'll try some things to see if i can get it working, but it's been frustrating to say the least.

      @pjft said in Few benefits To Overclocking the CPU on the Pi4?:

      I had read that the 4k60 flag is supposed to increase the clock by ~10%

      The 4k60 flag increases the GPU core freq from 500mhz to 550mhz. It shouldn't affect the CPU freq. I have gotten weird readings in the past where it reported much higher CPU frequencies than is possible. Im not sure what causes it, but I believe it's a false report.

      This is specific to the ppsspp-dev build that is inside the RetroPie-Extras GitHub https://github.com/Exarkuniv/RetroPie-Extra

      In the most recent dev builds, Retroachievements now work on PPSSPP.

      So if anyone wants to play with achievements on for the PSP but the retroarch core is too slow on pi3b/4 then it could be worth looking into this.

      @Amishgamer
      It is likely that your pi was throttling to 1200mhz
      setting mine to 1200mhz returned 95s sysbench.
      while it used to do this at 70c it has been changed to 60c degrees
      if you have a fan or heatsink make sure they are properly fixed.
      if you only have a heatsink and no fan then this temperature is normal, and the throttling level can be increased by setting
      temp_soft_limit=70
      to config.txt

      here are some commands to read from vcgencmd the current voltage and frequencies
      for src in arm core h264 isp v3d; do echo -e "$src:\t$(vcgencmd measure_clock $src)"; done

      for id in core sdram_p sdram_i sdram_c ; do echo -e "$id:\t$(vcgencmd measure_volts $id)"; done
      and read the systems boot time, userspace time completion can vary by up to 5 - 90 seconds depending on the last shutdown and if the system thinks it needs a filesystem check or on usb drives.
      systemd-analyze

      I added them to a script to be able to execute all together

      #!/bin/bash for id in core sdram_p sdram_i sdram_c ; do echo -e "$id:\t$(vcgencmd measure_volts $id)"; done for src in arm core h264 isp v3d; do echo -e "$src:\t$(vcgencmd measure_clock $src)"; done cpuTemp0=$(cat /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/temp) cpuTemp1=$(($cpuTemp0/1000)) cpuTemp2=$(($cpuTemp0/100)) cpuTempM=$(($cpuTemp2 % $cpuTemp1)) echo CPU temp"="$cpuTemp1"."$cpuTempM"'C" echo GPU $(/opt/vc/bin/vcgencmd measure_temp) systemd-analyze

      As much as I wanted an external drive I still did go for a (64GB) Micro SD (Samsung Evo+ as per benchmark).

      I will be moving my Rpi in Nespi Case+ from downstairs to the bedroom quite often so portability is "everything" to me.

      @m2306 You bought that controlblock so I'm not sure how you can overclock properly. Should've bought a zero delay usb encoder, connect your joystick to that so then you can buy a flirc case or a heatsink+fan combo.

      Do you need to overclock? No. Should you, if you had the ability to? Oh YES. Snes requires all the power it can get. The latest snes emulator, lr-snes9x, requires even more. If you want bleeding edge snes emulation the pi can handle, then you have to use that one. It's actively supported so any bugs will get worked on faster than the rest. MSU-1 support as well. As an example: I still get slowdowns on kirby3 at 1.5ghz. There's also a setting to speed things up to fix the original emulation slowdowns. So games like super r-type don't get slowdowns anymore.

      Arcade games need it too. It's such a hassle testing each game to see which one runs the fastest and with proper emulation. In a perfect world, if the pi could run the latest mame, then one arcade emulator would be so awesome. As it is now, I have to juggle between four arcade emulators, other people even more. A faster speed would help the situation a bit. I'm still slowly moving games from mame2003 to fba and I need to re-test the 4player konami games again to see if I still get slowdowns, so I can eliminate using fba2012.

      I forgot about lower end emulators like nes and genesis. They can also benefit by having the ability to enable the run-ahead setting to shave off a few frames of input lag. That feature requires tons of power too.

      I would've gone with something more powerful like an odroid xu4, but the level of support will always make me stick with pi's....that and I have no idea if my original snes pad driver will work on the odroid. I would want a silent cooling solution and I heard the giant heatsink version doesn't cool properly.
