      This is pretty epic IMHO!!

But if you are going jerry can look then I think one of the switches with the red flip cover (like a fighter jet) would make it look even better! :)

You did a wonderful thing, an invention if I could say so. Your idea of reusing an old laptop would not have even crossed my mind. Now that I've seen this, I'm thinking about how many things I could have reused, and I'd like to try something similar. How many days did it take you to conceive and put everything together? By the way, I saw on the website https://www.frameshop.com.au/acrylic-prints some accessories that would help you, and some frames would fit well with your digital images. You can do a small business out of it.

      Hi all,
So just to clarify you are saying its possible to:

Disable the overscan via raspi-config to get rid of the black border Enable the overscan_scale=1 in config.txt

I did these steps but ES still had its own ideas. Could I use the manual settings in config.txt for the left, right, up, down etc values to re-centre it. I also noticed that with overscan disabled my MAME games get cut off at the top a bit as well.

Is there a preferred option I should be setting the display settings to in the rasp-config. I have a 55"4k Display.

      Thanks,
      Dwarfboysim

@gengar103 said in Pi 3 - no HDMI display:

What can be done to get this LCD panel, which worked fine under 3.8.1, to work under 4.3?

Try editing /boot/config.txt and add this hdmi_force_hotplug=1

@larry-bell Although this has nothing to do with RetroPie, the error comes from an older/outdated OpenSSL library on your system.
When curl tries to download the file from raw.githubusercontent.com, it cannot understand the encryption protocol the site uses.

TL;DR - update/upgrade your system. On a stock RetroPie image (which is based on Raspbian Jessie), kept up-to date, the command you're trying to run works without problems. The versions for cURL/OpenSSL are shown in the output of the curl -V command:

pi@retropie:~ $ curl -V curl 7.38.0 (arm-unknown-linux-gnueabihf) libcurl/7.38.0 OpenSSL/1.0.1t zlib/1.2.8 libidn/1.29 libssh2/1.4.3 librtmp/2.3 Protocols: dict file ftp ftps gopher http https imap imaps ldap ldaps pop3 pop3s rtmp rtsp scp sftp smtp smtps telnet tftp Features: AsynchDNS IDN IPv6 Largefile GSS-API SPNEGO NTLM NTLM_WB SSL libz TLS-SRP

It seems that you should be able to use the linux way by being in developer mode, opening crosh, and typing shell.
You then will have a bash shell, with the dd command.
Careful to use the correct device as target for dd.

I also see that the chromebook recovery utility can be used too - see here : https://www.reddit.com/r/chromeos/comments/7d02im/using_a_chromebook_to_install_an_iso_to_a_usb/

@thomen It looks like it is an older, D-Link model DUB-H7 USB2.0 powered hub. You can see it in my project build thread (click link in my signature below). I have since cleaned up a bunch of USB cables using custom ones I built to length, but the shorter, white USB cable in the image is the power for my LEDs.

This hub definitely pre-dates high-power charging for smartphones and tablets, so might be an out-moded design. It seems these days, folks would want their devices to continue to get power for charing even if their computer is OFF. I wonder if a modern version of this hub will work differently.

      lr-fbalpha2012 displays 4:3 format cps2 games instead of 16:9

By the way, video signal on cps2 arcade machine was indeed 16:9, but the rendering was on a 4:3 screen. Rendering cps2 games as 16:9 is a bug, it was fixed on lr-fbalpha in late 2015, and was backported to lr-fbalpha2012 a few months ago.

About using the old lr-fbalpha2012 because you got the wrong roms, why not update your roms instead ? If you buy the wrong tire for your car, do you buy a new car or do you go back to get the right tire ? I can understand using lr-fbalpha2012 on a raspberry in a few specific cases (i'm mostly thinking about svg and killbld here), but lr-fbalpha is overall better because a lot of bugfix and compatibilty was added in the last 5 years.

      @willreaper

I used this guide for the overclocking and this was the correct method and worked for me:

      http://www.instructables.com/id/RetroPie-Overclocked-Raspberry-Pi-3-for-Video-Game/

Take a close look of that console image, where the lines are positioned in the boot config, that is the key thing that has to be correct.

After that, you need to try out different settings in the emulation, by opening the Quick Menu while game is running and changing the emulation options.

@Ecks if your sink is attached properly you might not need a fan. I don't have one, but if it makes you feel better, go for it. I would not waste the time nor the effort.
