@rasp_renegade hello. As with ColecoVision and Intellivision...all emulators....Google is your friend for any BIOS/ROM files. And also keep in mind, there are variations to some that you have to keep trying versions until you get the right one.

so the thing to note here is lr-mame is in the 'experimental' section of the retropie package manager. experiments fail :P

It wouldn't be an experiment if we knew what was going to happen :)

lr-mame2003-plus seems very reliable for me, with helpful features over lr-mame2003. Is there a list of remaining issues, or a process for that to go through before it becomes a regular optional or main package?

Try looking at the system's messages when you plug in the drive, by running dmesg -w (CTRL+C to interrupt) on the console and see if any errors are displayed.

Make sure you've updated your system (sudo apt update && sudo full-upgrade) to get the latest stable USB firmware and kernel/firmware release.

There's a sticky topic in the RPI forums here for troubleshooting problematic USB3 SSDs, you might want to take a look and see if your enclosure's USB SSD adapter could be one of the models reported with issues.

Hi, given the line bios_boot failed to copy bootfile I believe the rom you're using is corrupt. It's failing to find the 1ST_READ.BIN on the disc.

@koogelpotato Are the files listed when you ssh/SFTP to the snes rom directory on the pi? If so, check if they are all the accepted file extensions. If you've confirmed the files are indeed on the USB drive, you may want to check your freespace on the pi with df -h to see if you are out of space on the SD card.

@pandamkii You don't unzip MAME roms, this is the way they're distributed they'll not work otherwise. If you're considering adding MAME to your setup and you're a beginner, then please read the Quick Start and the topics linked on that page. It will answer most of your questions and will help you understand how MAME rom(set)s work.

@retroprogrammer I realize that my wording was probably the issue, but I wasnt asking where to find the rom :)

I was just wanting to know if someone has seen the issue, if there's a fix, or if there's a particular rom version I should be searching for.

Which system? When you post about a problem try to be specific. I think its the MAME games who don't work? You did update the emulator which requires a newer romset. You need to rebuild the romset to the required version for the emulator and it will work.

Well, the mistake was mine altogether!
As I said: I'm new to this. What I didn't know was, that I can't just create new folders in the ROM directory manually and than move ROMs into it. It needs the emulators to be installed FIRST. By doing that the folders will pop up automaticly.
Now everything works just fine.

@legendofthestorm yeah, fs errors are rarely good. Not sure how your corruption happened but never pull the plug on a working Pi. Glad you got it sorted.
