On the plus side, enabling SSH allows me to use my PC keyboard and mouse with my Pie. Learn something new everyday, lol.

but when we're talking about custom tags,

Thanks for the quick response. I'll try the autostart and login.

I don't have any custom tags...I just want to make sure that the redone videos aren't overwritten by the original videos. I'm not too worried about the favorite/playcount/etc stuff right now. I just want to get this all up and running. I ordered a replacement SANWA JLF-TP-8YT-SK joystick to swap into my controller. The stock stick is not very accurate, but I got it super-cheap and couldn't pass it up.

You can ignore that. As far as I know, it is only a reference from the scraper where it got the data from.

@mitu i read it but was unsure as i really dont want to scrape each emulator seperately as per ( Skyscraper -p snes -s screenscraper) suggests. also i was wondering if that same thing could be done from the graphical interface. If not what command syntax would i use to scrape all roms/emulators?

Originally i think i used the built in scraper from emulationstation and it scraped almost all of them but this time it did barely any.

Well I tried running sudo ./RetroPie-Setup/retropie_setup.shand I tried to scrape using all of the websites but it kept showing data not found. I tried every single website and it kept saying data not found. Nothing was scraped even after I tried twice.

I still don't understand whats wrong. It keeps failing no matter what.

Oh, wait I understand now - I didn't realize each of these items in the lists were, themselves, subfolders containing the ROMs. The theme I was using, Eudora, didn't give any indication that the subfolders were different from the ROMs, and since that made the menu look buggy to me, I didn't want to test the "buggy ROM." The moment I switched to Carbon, the difference was obvious. A simple click would have answered all my questions.

I feel very sheepish, you'd think I'd never used a computer before. But you helped me work it out, and thank you for that!

Yes, I figured out about nesting layers, so I got the alignment working.
I couldn't get the resizing of the wheel.png to work the way I wanted, so I just adjusted the 'box' so that it worked for the tallest wheel.png when they were all adjusted by width.
It's not totally perfect but with such a variance in wheel.png sizes and shapes I think it looks pretty uniform.
      alt text
      alt text

Now to run it on all the other systems and hope it comes out OK.

Edit: Just tweaked the box so rather than having its own border in the png it just uses the stroke feature to match the border on the screen shot.

Not thrilled with the banding that gets introduced with skyscraper.

      @mitu said in Scraper accuracy?:

@MisterMints This corresponds to 4.4.4 - you should have skyscraper as a module in the experimental packages section. Did you also update the packages ?

I did, but still "no game found"

This happens whether I go via the scraper option from pressing start and doing it on a system by system basis, or edit this games meta data on individual ROMs.

I have go sselph and skyscraper working now so it's no big issue and they both seem to be very accurate so far

gamelist.xml and images-folder created in the wrong path?

Turns out the only gamelist that was created was in ~/RetroPie/roms/retropie/gamelist.xml , (there was only this single one on my whole disk, and I did search for hidden files, too).
But in the retropie_setup.sh -> tools -> scraper options, I had disabled (or forgotten to enable) that the .xmls be put in their respective rom directories.
So I deleted the single gamelist and image folder (that contained metadata for >10 systems), scraped again, since I really couldn't be bothered with manually sorting metadata for >4k Roms into different folders, and this time everything was saved to the right locations!
Thank you very much for providing me with the correct locations, the problem is solved now and the thread can be closed.

I was able to trick Skyscraper into recognizing there are subdirectories in my \RETROPIE\roms\mame-libretro folder by including at least one ROM file in the base emulator ROM folder.

Maybe this will work with your issue.

@retropieting I know this topic is quite old, however I had exactly the same issue and was able to fix it so I thought I would share it here for others with the same problem.

The issue is that the Scraper included the "Mame2003" game folder (for want of a better term) as a game to be scraped. The lines it adds (Unknown, Unknown, Unknown, Players) relates to Developer, Publisher, Genre and # of players.

The way I got round it was to boot into retropie, then press select/options (on the controller) when Highlighting the Mame2003 folder and chose to edit the games meta details. I then typed a unique value for the Developer and saved it. Then when I looked in the gamelist.xml file I could see the entry right at the bottom of the file under the <folder> tags. I then edited this file to include some blurb around the emulator itself, gave it a first release date (5th Feb 97 if I remember correctly) and added a nice image to round it off.

I do wonder if you could correct the issue permanently by deleting the folder section from the xml file, but I quite liked the summary.

      Hope this helps someone else!

@webz0r I'm not sure how you would do this, but you don't need to worry about keeping the gamelist.xml in alphabetical order.

Skraper (skraper.net) can get the manuals for the games scraped, provided they're available.
