@WhiteT982 $1 is passing the 1st parameter (probably your steam game) to the "steam" command.

&2>1 is redirecting stderr to stdout (so you can see if an error occurs while reading stdout).

No, RetroPie cannot be installed on the SteamDeck, it's not using a compatible Linux distro.

If you have a SteamDeck you may want to take a look at EmuDeck for something similar to RetroPie.

Basically what I'm doing to launch is to configure the platform like this:

      <system> <name>steam</name> <fullname>Steam</fullname> <path>~/RetroPie/roms/steam</path> <extension>.dat</extension> <command>steam steam://rungameid/`cat %ROM%`</command> <platform>pc</platform> <theme>steam</theme> </system>

And then in the Steam ROMs folder, saving the game id in a .cat file.

Like @abaaihd said, the only issue is when exiting the game, as Steam will be minimized and EmulationStation will loose focus.

@abaaihd Did you get able to get back to ES after exit any Steam game?

@Crush Proton is not new and has reached version 7. It is based on WINE and DXVK and some other stuff. You can find out what is compatible in Steam: https://www.protondb.com/

I use Proton on my desktop PC instead WINE. It can be used without Steam running too. But the Proton version needs to be downloaded from Steam UI first. I recommend Proton Experimental. Here is a script, you can try: Proton script Or you can try one of the forks, who added some more stuff and made it a bit better.

      @muldjord

I understand that i can load it along side it. But it would be nice to have inside of steamos and just click on it from the library. It seems that RetroArch is jumping on it. That's why I asked, but they seem to be doing it from the windows point of view. like i said it would be nice to have it support in steam not a side load. that's all.

I know this is an old thread, but its one of the many I have been over while trying to find a solution to this problem.

Mind you I'm running Steamlink as a port from RetroPie on a Pi4B 8GB.

Heres what I had to do to resolve the issue for myself.

In the Rapberry Pi Config file; Disable Underscan Disable Screen Blanking

Make sure Steamlink and other packages on your device are up to date.

Make sure that your Pi is outputting the same resolution or lower to your TV or monitor as the PC that the games are actually running on are outputting to its monitor. Eg. If your PC is running the games on a 1080p monitor, you likely wont be able to steam link from the Pi on a 4K TV @ 2160p without the black screen issue. I just set the display output in both my pi config and retro pie to 1080p to match my PC monitor and now Im playing without issue.

Hope this helps anyone whos still stuck with this issue.

There's an overview of the audio settings which should be used with the Pi's on-board sound in this sticky. It's probably related to incorrect settings - see 1., once you have the correct audio settings, the message should disappear. it might be related to 1. Is the audio played directly by your TV or is it routed to the home cinema ? Any messages logged in /dev/shm/runcommand.log ? Are you using Steamlink over WiFi or wired ? What's the resolution of your display ?

@moltke44 You can try any command you see fit, but the package will not work under Jessie - even if you get it installed.
As for the update to Stretch, the recommended method is to use a new image from scratch and transfer your configs/roms/etc. to the new image. It's possible - technically - to upgrade in place, but as you already found, it's not always optimal and you can end up re-imaging anyway.
Remember to backup your image before attempting the upgrade - with any method you choose.

Has anyone had any issues with audio?

My audio seems to work on launch of steamlink. Then stops suddenly during a game.

It seems to mute the volume during the game. Easy enough to put back on the laptop... But can't seem to do it in game? Can anyone help?
