to chekck I made myself a Recalbox (latest version) ...with
disable_overscan = 1
hdmi_group=2
HDMI_mode =16 (later I used 42)
HDMI_force_hotplug = 1

...and it works with my Samsung 230b... now I have to find out what is different in newest retropie version.
