@lamaman1971 Aside from MAME2003+, MAME cores have a very shallow libretro implementation preventing some stuff from working properly, which is why it's recommended to prefer MAME2003+ or FBNeo with the appropriate romsets if the game you are trying to play is supported.

You might be able to force the values you want by directly editing MAME config files, but i wouldn't be able to help with the details, and i don't recommend asking the MAME team for help about this.

Will great if the MAME menu appear when pressing the Hotkey & 2P button (or any other key combination)

You should be able to setup a hotkey of sorts, or align it with the RA hotkey. Just press Enter on the TAB field and then one button followed by a second button in quick succession. Actually it could be 3 or whatever. You'll just need to make sure it's not a key combo that RA is using to avoid two "actions" happening at once.

Anyway to set Mame 'TAB' key to a hotkey?

@sirhenrythe5th I think its because select & x does the retroarch menu so i was expecting it to be the same for the mame menu, but its not. No matter it works now!

ESC ESC on this PI restores it to what it was before editing.

I'd like to know how to map it to "NONE" just to think I had mastery of this.

      Thank you

@mitu Thanks for the link. I checked it out, but it doesn't appear to fix the main problem of disrupting retropie. It only fixes games with mic issues, if I understand it correctly.

This was the issue I was having: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/10110/drastic-nds-emulator-breaks-run-command-emulator-configuration-prompt-in-retropie4-2/30

Though in my case, it seems to have disabled the retropie setup menu as well... even after I uninstalled it. I switched to my backup SD card and so far no problems with the retropie setup menu, although, I still can't get other systems to boot after I've launched a NDS game.

I've been trying to keep up with the repository the last week or two but for what it's worth I'm on the road again and mostly away from keyboard for most of the next week. It might be that the Thanksgiving holiday is when I get some quality mame2003-plus time again.

Just curious if this was resolved. I am having the same problem but the posted solution doesn't work for me. My pi doesn't have that file in that directory and thus it cannot be deleted.

Please start a new thread with the requested information detailed at https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first. Using that information, we'll be able to zero in on where the file is located.

Seems like RetroPie... I think the guy took it, added the rest to it and uploaded to share.

My arcade build got derailed temporarily, and was split between using a Pi or a PC based system... had lots done on it and files etc, but never got everything working quite right.

Niece was really interested in it though and likes the old NES/SNES games so, figured for Xmas I'd get one of those NesPi cases and a 16GB card and well, time's a factor so hoped the 16GB Mad Little Pixel image would be better than what I accomplished on my own, but, seems to be a pain in the @$$. :D

That said, attract mode works... though not sure I like it more than the standard RetroPie/ES screen. Has sound and video... but also lag and takes longer to scroll through stuff.

I'll give those a try when I get home. Hopefully a quick fix. :)

@dankcushions said in MAME2003, Rgui vs Tab:

when you press tab, where are those control configurations stored?

      https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/lr-mame2003#mame-menu

They appear to be tied to the retropad mapping so how do they work with the Rgui bindings?

basically all libretro emulators only see the retropad abstraction. so regardless of what controller you use, the emulator will only see 'Retropad A button', 'Retropad B button', etc. if you rebind something using the TAB key, what you are saying is 'Button 1' in mame is changed from 'Retropad A button' to 'Retropad B button', etc.

Perfect, thanks! I missed this in the Wiki.

Finally got it... in the file advmame-0.94.0.rc there was a line near the end that was input_map[ui_configure] I deleted it and it works again. I first tried to add auto to the end of the line but then mame would not boot.
