      While I have you here, this strikes me as something that might be related to another issue I'm having in this thread.

      No, it's not.

      Are there any insights you can add to the other thread?

      I tinkered around a bit more and got rid of the extra script by moving the commands completly in the es_systems file. Here is the full entry, if anybody wants to add it themself. Just don't forget to create the docs directory in the roms folder. Also remember, that this is probably not well supported by themes.

      <system> <name>docs</name> <fullname>Documents</fullname> <path>/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/docs</path> <extension>.txt .TXT</extension> <command>/opt/retropie/admin/joy2key/joy2key start; whiptail --clear --scrolltext --msgbox "$(cat "%ROM%")" $(stty size); /opt/retropie/admin/joy2key/joy2key stop</command> <theme>docs</theme> </system>

      I think this was fixed a couple of weeks ago in the dev branch of EmulationStation, make sure you're using the latest version by updating from source.

      I too notice this error. It looks like a couple things just need a little tweaking in the metadata area. Text wrapping and some spacings.

      I can see the font files from my Mac via FTP, and a number of 16x32 fonts seem to be the largest there is. That's fine, I hopefully I can just SSH in for 99% of things.

      @rkoster said in Adding Text to Custom Theme:

      I posted an example of doing exactly this just the other day: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/22800/add-console-year-next-to-games-count/2

      Thanks so much! That does look like it might be what I'm after, but I still can't see to get it to work quite right. I have tried it a few different ways, but the code is not displaying properly. Can you upload links to the two XML files you reference in the other thread so I can see you're work-flow (and will help discover where I'm going wrong)

      OK, I found a workaround for this problem - which seems similar to this issue.
      Edit the /etc/default/console-setup file (sudo nano /etc/default/console-setup) and change the

      CHARMAP="UTF8"

      to

      CHARMAP="ISO-8859-1"

      then reboot. After that, the game should run with the correct characters.

      @Eyeball_36 I get something similar sometimes with n64 games. I'm not sure what was causing it but I have suspected the resolution changing from my default settings to the rom defined settings when launching a rom has something to do with it.

      Are the videos forcing the resolution to change? Also have you tried enabling/disabling dismpmax?

      I seem to have fixed this. I found a page (here) with a few extra instructions on suppressing various messages. I haven't implemented them all but it seems the one or two I have added have done the trick! I'd already added one or two of these as per the excellent Retropie docs, but the extra bits here seem to have done the trick. Been mashing about the menu for a couple of hours, and rebooted several times and so far it has not returned.

      Thanks for your help. Thrilled to get it working so nice! :-)

      @douga said in Screwed up sizing of EVERYTHING playing with MAME:

      Looks like I was a bit slow, but anyway, you can force whichever resolution you want by uncommenting the hdmi_mode line again and setting the value. You had it set to VGA resolution, according to that link.

      Yeah. Thanks man.

      Strange thing is that I never un-commented either of those lines. I know that there is some strange resolution changes that happen when entering and exiting games in MAME and FBL, so I'm thinking that the commenting/un-commenting of those lines must happen while using those emulators and I just happened to freeze the Pi after the un-comment, so it wasn't going to be fixed until I figured out what needed to be done manually.

      Thanks for that link. Bookmarked. :)
